In this compelling message titled "Sailing with Jonah," Pastor Terence takes us on a journey through the first chapter of the book of Jonah. We explore the consequences of Jonah's attempt to flee from God's command and how his disobedience not only affected his life but also the lives of those around him. Through the story of Jonah, we are reminded that we cannot hide from God and that our actions have a ripple effect on others. Despite Jonah’s disobedience, God’s sovereignty shines through as He uses even Jonah’s rebellion to bring others to repentance and worship. This sermon challenges us to consider our own lives and the storms we may face due to disobedience, encouraging us to submit to God’s will and seek His guidance in every situation.
What this means for you
God told Jonah to go east to Nineveh. Jonah got on a ship going west. But you cannot run away from God. A storm came, and the sailors on the ship were in danger because of Jonah's choice.
Our choices affect other people. When we disobey God, it is not only us who suffer. Our families, our friends and our church can feel the storm too. But when we obey, others are blessed through us.
Even so, God was in control. He used Jonah's storm to bring the sailors to worship Him. God can turn even our mistakes around for His glory. But how much better to obey Him the first time.
