In this second part of our series on the book of Jonah, Pastor Terence looks into the deep grace of God as illustrated in Jonah 2:1-10. We explore how God's grace extended not only to Jonah but also to the sailors, the Ninevites, and, ultimately, to all who call upon Him. Through Jonah's prayer from the belly of the fish, we see the character of God as one of universal love, sovereignty, discipline, second chances, and eagerness to save. This message challenges us to reflect on how God’s grace continues to work in our lives today.
What this means for you
Jonah ran from God and ended up in the belly of a great fish. It was dark, it was frightening and it was his own fault. But even there, Jonah prayed, and God heard him. Jonah 2:9 ends with these words: salvation comes from the Lord.
Maybe you are in a hard place because of your own choices. You might think God will not listen to you now. But the story of Jonah shows us a God of second chances. His grace reaches us even at the bottom of the sea.
God's discipline is not to destroy us. It is to bring us back to Him. If you have been running, stop today. Turn around. Pray, like Jonah did. God is ready to forgive and to give you a fresh start.
Questions to think about
Have you ever been in a hard place because of your own choices? How did God meet you?
