The Reality of Heaven

"For the Lamb who is in the midst of the throne will shepherd them and lead them to living fountains of waters. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes."

Revelation 7:17 (NKJV)

In the midst of his suffering, Job said that man is born to trouble as surely as sparks fly upward. It is true. I have never met a person who did not have troubles of some kind. Fear and sickness rob us of happiness. Broken relationships and shattered dreams destroy our peace. Grief arrives uninvited and stays far longer than we would choose.

But God has made a promise that reaches through all of it and offers something no earthly comfort can provide: one day, He will wipe away every tear from our eyes. There shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain. The former things will have passed away.

I want you to hear how personal that image is. Not a general declaration that sadness will cease. But God Himself, reaching out and wiping every tear from every eye. There is an intimacy in that image that moves me every time I read it.

Heaven is not a vague spiritual afterlife. The Bible describes it with more detail and more joy than we typically give it credit for. It is a prepared place for a prepared people. It is the home our souls were made for. And at its centre is the presence of Christ Himself, the Lamb who is on the throne, leading His people to fountains of living water.

This certainty changes everything about how we face the present. Paul could write about present suffering with almost startling lightness, not because he was in denial, but because he kept the proportion right. He called his suffering momentary and light, set against an eternal weight of glory that far outweighs it.

Every difficulty you are facing today is real. I do not minimise it. But it is temporary. And beyond it is something so good, so permanent, so glorious, that Paul says it is not even worth comparing.

Heaven is not an escape from life. It is the destination that gives all of life its meaning.

Prayer: Lord, renew in me a living hope in heaven. Help me to hold today's difficulties lightly in the light of what You have promised is coming. Thank You that every tear will be wiped away, and that the best is still ahead. In Jesus' name, Amen.
