Daily Living by Faith

"This righteousness is given through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference between Jew and Gentile."

Romans 3:22 (NIV)

Have you ever stopped to notice how much of your daily life already operates on faith? You drive through an intersection trusting that drivers approaching from the side will obey their red lights. You take medicine trusting that it contains what the label says. You board an aeroplane trusting the engineers who built it and the pilot who flies it. Faith is not a strange religious activity. It is the constant operating assumption of every human life.

A sceptic might say: but those are visible, verifiable things, whereas God cannot be seen or tested. And yet consider the world itself. The extraordinary complexity of a single human cell. The precise calibration of the physical constants that make life possible. The consciousness that arises from matter in a way that physics still cannot explain. Is it genuinely more rational to believe that all of this happened without intelligence behind it, or that it came from an all-powerful Creator?

The evidence for God is not absent. It is everywhere. Creation is not neutral. It testifies. As Paul writes in Romans 1: since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made.

But the foundation of Christian faith is even more specific than creation. It is a person. Jesus Christ was God in human flesh. He proved it not by performing tricks, but by living a sinless life, fulfilling hundreds of prophecies, and then dying and coming back from the dead in front of hundreds of witnesses.

Faith in Christ is not a leap in the dark. It is a step toward the most well-evidenced figure in ancient history. And the faith that saves is not the faith that merely acknowledges His existence. It is the faith that entrusts the whole of life to Him.

We exercise that kind of trust every day with far less worthy objects. What would it look like to exercise it fully toward the One who deserves it most?

Prayer: Lord, thank You that faith in You is not a leap in the dark but a step toward the most trustworthy Person who ever lived. Strengthen my faith today. Help me to entrust not just my eternal future but my everyday decisions to You. In Jesus' name, Amen.
