The Simple Gospel

“For Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
— Romans‬ ‭10‬‬:‭13‬ ‭(NLT‬‬)

When it comes to understanding the gospel message, today verse is one of the most important verses:

Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.

Jesus lived a perfect life and died for our sins on the cross, and through His death and resurrection we can experience true and everlasting life. We are given the opportunity to believe in Jesus, and through faith we receive the undeserved gift of forgiveness and love.

The most controversial part of this message is that we don't have to work for it or earn it.

Salvation is given to us freely as a gift of God through faith in Jesus. Salvation is given to anyone who calls on the name of the Lord.

What this means for you

Some people think they need to fix their life before they come to God. They say, when I stop this habit, or when my life is more in order, then I will come to church. But the gospel says the opposite. You come to Jesus as you are, and He changes you.

Notice the word everyone. It does not matter where you are from, what language you speak or what you have done. Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. No one is too far away. No one is too bad.

Calling on the name of the Lord is simple. It means you turn to Jesus, you believe that He died and rose again for you, and you ask Him to forgive you and lead your life. If you have never done this, you can do it today, right where you are. And if you do, please tell us. We would love to pray with you and help you take your next step.

Think about it

  • Have you ever called on the name of Jesus for yourself?

  • Who do you know who needs to hear that God's gift is free?

 Pray:

Heavenly Father, thank You for allowing us to call on Your name! Thank You for sending Your Son, Jesus, to rescue us from a life separated from You. In Jesus' name, Amen.
