“6 Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? Yet not one of them is forgotten by God. 7 Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.”
In our verse for today Jesus is affirming the high value of all His creatures. Sparrows didn’t count for much in the ancient world, but not one of them was ever outside the notice of their Creator.
But as valuable to God as they all are, humans are even more valuable. Psalm 8 says we are the pinnacle of His creation. We occupy a special place in God’s created order, and therefore we have a special vocation.
With our high place in His eyes, we have not only high responsibilities but also high privileges.
What this means for you
Maybe you feel small today. Maybe you feel that nobody notices you, at work, at home, or even at church. Jesus says something very simple to you: God has not forgotten you. If He knows every sparrow and every hair on your head, He knows what you are carrying right now.
God cares about the little things. The bill that worries you. The pain you have not told anyone about. The prayer you have prayed many times. Nothing in your life is too small for Him to see, and nothing is too big for Him to handle.
Jesus says, do not be afraid. Fear tells you that you are on your own. The truth is that your Father is watching over you. You are worth more to Him than you can imagine. He proved it when He gave His Son Jesus for you.
Think about it
What small thing have you not brought to God because you thought it did not matter?
Who around you needs to hear that God has not forgotten them?
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, We thank you for your goodness. We thank you for the privilege we have in You. Lord thank you that we don't have to be afraid, in Jesus name we pray Amen.
