Giving God What He Truly Desires

Friday 19 July 2024

Good morning, ANCC Men of Honour! Welcome to a fresh day where we have the opportunity to offer something of true value to God.

Today, let's take a look at Genesis 4:4–5, where we see how God reacted differently to the offerings from Abel and Cain. God favoured Abel's offering because it was just what He wanted – a sincere display of devotion and humility.

In our society today, the image of being a strong and unemotional superhero like Superman is not as admired as it once was. Instead, what really improves our relationships is being understanding, caring, and open. Our families value these qualities the most: our presence, love, and willingness to show our true selves.

Many of us have witnessed or experienced the 'strong, silent' type in our fathers, often leaving emotional gaps in their relationships. The call for us today is to be different to replace any form of masculinity with genuine compassion and availability.

God isn't looking for grand gestures, impressive resumes, or external displays of piety. He desires our hearts, humble and full of praise, ready to give not just to Him but also to those around us. By giving God what He truly desires, we find ourselves better equipped to give our loved ones what they need most.

Let us pray:

Heavenly Father, guide us this day to present You with our hearts as our offering—open, loving, and committed to Your praise. Help us to embody the warmth and affection that our families need from us, and let our lives reflect Your love and compassion. Amen.
