Refusing the Labels
Hebrews 11:23 (NKJV) “By faith Moses, when he was born, was hidden three months by his parents, because they saw he was a beautiful child; and they were not afraid of the king’s command."
You cannot protect what you do not value. Because Jochebed saw the value in Moses, she refused to accept the label the world placed on him. To Pharaoh, Moses was "trash." To his mother, he was a treasure. This reminds me of the story of Thomas Edison. A teacher’s note once labelled him "too stupid to learn," but his mother refused the label. She saw potential instead of failure, taught him at home, and changed the world.
Dietrich Bonhoeffer wrote in his book titled Life Together, "We must learn to regard people less in the light of what they do or omit to do, and more in the light of what they suffer." Or, in the case of our families, in the light of who Christ calls them to be. Mothers, your first job is to cast vision. There is no such thing as an ordinary child in the hands of an extraordinary God. Refuse the labels the enemy tries to attach to your family.
Prayer:
Lord Jesus Christ, I come before You, grateful for Your love and the identity You give my family and me through Your sacrifice. I reject the negative labels the world has tried to place on us, and I choose instead to embrace the truth of who we are in You, beloved, redeemed, and set apart for Your purposes. Empower me by Your Spirit to cast a kingdom vision for my home. Let my words and actions reflect Your heart, declaring Your promises and speaking life over every member of my family. When doubts or accusations arise, remind me of Your finished work on the cross, where You broke every curse and gave us a new name. Help me see my loved ones through Your eyes, nurture their God-given potential, and trust that You are working in their lives for Your glory. May my home be a place where Your grace, truth, and love dwell richly, a beacon of hope to the world. I surrender my fears and uncertainties to You, Lord Jesus, and ask that You guide us according to Your perfect will. Let our family story magnify Your goodness and faithfulness. In Your holy name, Amen.
