Seeing the "Tob"
“So the woman conceived and bore a son. And when she saw that he was a beautiful child, she hid him three months.”
When the Bible says Jochebed saw that Moses was a "beautiful" child, it wasn't just a mother admiring her baby's dimples or cute smile. The original Hebrew word used here is tob (טוב). It is the exact same word God used in Genesis 1 when He looked at His creation and declared, "It is good." Jochebed looked at her son and saw the goodness and glory of God resting on him.
She saw a masterpiece before he was ever a deliverer. Faith is the ability to see what God sees. R.C. Sproul reminds us in his book titled The Holiness of God that "God’s creation is a reflection of His own beauty." When Jochebed looked at her son, she didn't see a problem to be solved or a slave to be hidden; she saw divine potential. What do you see when you look at your children? Do you see a slow learner, or a unique mind God is shaping? Do you see a rebel, or a leader without a cause? Ask God to give you His eyes today.
Prayer:
Lord Jesus Christ, give me eyes of faith rooted in Your love and sacrifice. Help me to look past the struggles, labels, and challenges in my loved ones, and to see them as You see them as those for whom You died and rose again. May I recognise Your image, Your purpose, and Your redemptive work in their lives. Teach me to love and value others as You have loved and valued me, seeing the “tob”, the divine masterpiece You are creating through Your grace. Let my faith be anchored in Your finished work on the cross, trusting that You are shaping each life for Your glory. In Your holy name, Amen.
