Day 21: The More Empowered Life

Today’s Reading: Ephesians 3:14–21

Welcome to Day 21 of our 21 Days of Prayer and Fasting 2023. This is Week 3, The Church Multiplied.

The Focus: “Now to Him who is able to do IMMEASURABLY MORE than all we ask or imagine, ACCORDING TO HIS POWER THAT IS AT WORK WITHIN US, to Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.” (Ephesians 3:20–21)

The Meditation: “Immeasurably more . . . according to His power that is at work within us.”

On Our Knees at the Finish

We have reached the last day of our 21 Days of Prayer and Fasting. It is fitting that we end where Paul is in this passage: on his knees before the Father (Ephesians 3:14).

His prayer is a good one to carry into the rest of the year.

Power on the Inside

Paul asks that God would strengthen us with power through His Spirit in our inner being (Ephesians 3:16). Most of our prayers are about what is happening around us. This one is about what is happening within us. God often changes our circumstances by first changing us.

He prays that Christ would dwell in our hearts through faith (Ephesians 3:17). To dwell means to be at home, with every room open to Him.

Love Too Big to Measure

He then asks that we would have power, together with all God’s people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep the love of Christ is, and to know this love that is beyond knowledge (Ephesians 3:18–19). We need the Spirit’s power even to take in how much we are loved. And we discover it together with the church, not alone.

The result is that we are filled to the measure of all the fullness of God (Ephesians 3:19).

Immeasurably More

Paul ends with praise. God is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us (Ephesians 3:20). Think of the largest thing you have asked for in these three weeks. He is able to do more.

The glory is His, in the church and in Christ Jesus, through all generations (Ephesians 3:21).

Pray It Through

  • Look back and give thanks. What has God shown you or done for you in these 21 days? Write it down and thank Him.

  • Keep one habit. Choose one thing from this fast that you will carry on, such as a time of day or a place to pray.

  • Ask for more. Pray Ephesians 3:16–19 for yourself and for our church family.

Prayer for Today

Father, I kneel before You at the end of these 21 days. Thank You for all You have done. Strengthen me with power through Your Spirit in my inner being. Let Christ be at home in my heart, and help me to grasp how much He loves me. You are able to do immeasurably more than all I ask or imagine. To You be the glory in the church, for ever. Amen.
