Day 11: Nowhere He Is Not

Bible passage: Psalm 139:7–12; Exodus 33:14; Deuteronomy 31:8; Revelation 21:3

Never Alone

Today is Monday 8th of April 2019. Welcome to Day 11 of our 21 Days of Prayer and Fasting. Yesterday we looked at God’s promises. Today we take hold of one of the greatest. He will never leave us.

David turns the thought over in wonder. “I can never escape from your Spirit! I can never get away from your presence!” Psalm 139:7 (NLT)

The God Who Stays

Everywhere

David tries out the furthest places he can imagine. If he goes up to heaven, God is there. If he goes down to the grave, God is there. If he rides the wings of the morning or lives by the furthest oceans, even there God’s hand will guide him and God’s strength will support him (Psalm 139:8–10).

Even in the Dark

Then David thinks about darkness. He could ask the darkness to hide him, but even in darkness he cannot hide from God. To God the night shines as bright as day (Psalm 139:11–12).

Some of us are in a dark place as we read this. The darkness is real to us. It is not dark to God. He sees us there perfectly well, and His hand is still holding us.

Going Ahead

After Israel’s great sin with the golden calf, Moses was unsure whether God would still travel with them. The Lord answered him directly. He would personally go with Moses, and He would give him rest (Exodus 33:14).

Forty years later Moses handed the same promise on to Joshua. Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord will personally go ahead of you. He will be with you. He will neither fail you nor abandon you (Deuteronomy 31:8).

God is with us, and He is also ahead of us. Whatever tomorrow holds, He is there already.

Where the Story Ends

God’s Home Among His People

The Bible ends with this promise fulfilled completely. John hears a loud shout from the throne. God’s home is now among His people. He will live with them, and they will be His people. God Himself will be with them (Revelation 21:3).

What we now know by faith, we will then see. The whole story of the Bible is moving towards God and His people together for ever.

Three Steps for Today

  • Praise Him. Thank God that His presence is with you at this moment, wherever you are reading this.

  • Ask to be aware of Him. Ask God to help you to sense His presence today in ways you can recognise.

  • Look ahead. Think about spending eternity with God. Tell Him honestly what that stirs in you.

Prayer for Today:
Lord, there is nowhere I can go where You are not. Thank You that You are with me now, and that You have gone ahead of me into tomorrow. Even my darkness is not dark to You. Take away my fear. Help me to know that You are near today, and fill me with hope for the day when I will see You face to face. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
