Test Me In This
We have arrived at the final part of our series on biblical generosity, and it all boils down to one fundamental question: Do we trust God enough to obey Him?
In Malachi 3:10 (NIV), God says, "Test me in this... and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven." This is the only place in the entire Bible where God explicitly invites us to put Him to the test. Let me be perfectly clear: this is not a prosperity message, and God is not a cash machine where you put in £10 to demand £100 back. Testing God with our tithe is not a financial transaction; it is an invitation into absolute trust.
In this concluding message, I share four vital movements to reorder our financial lives under the Lordship of Christ:
See the Rival: Jesus warned that we cannot serve both God and money. Money acts as a rival because it subtly promises the security, identity, and peace that only God can provide. Money is a brilliant tool, but a brutal master.
Hear the Call: Before God ever addresses their tithes, He says, "Return to me, and I will return to you." Their giving problem was actually a worship problem. God doesn't need our resources; He wants our hearts.
Take the Step: Tithing is not putting a coin into a slot machine to control God. It is stepping out in faith and saying, "God, I will put You first before I can see how the rest of the month will work out."
Share the Blessing: When God throws open the floodgates, the blessing is not meant to be stored in bigger barns (Luke 12:16–21). God does not make us a reservoir; He makes us a channel to carry His blessing to our families, our church, and our community.
"Faithfulness is not formed when you have plenty. Faithfulness is formed in the little! Heaven doesn't measure the size of the gift; Heaven measures the size of the trust!"
