Fresh Oil

Have you ever driven your car with that little orange fuel warning light glowing on the dashboard? You keep driving, telling yourself you have enough to make it, but you stop enjoying the journey. You watch every single mile, fear every traffic jam, and anxiously calculate if you can just make it to the next station.

Too many of us are living our spiritual lives the exact same way. We still do the school run, turn up for the night shift, care for our families, and smile at church, but on the inside, we are completely exhausted and running on reserve.

In the opening message of our new three-week series, Overflow, I share a simple truth: God never called you to live on empty.

Looking at Psalm 92 and the story of the widow in 2 Kings 4, here are three truths about the Holy Spirit's power:

  • Fresh Oil is for Empty Vessels: When the widow poured her tiny bit of oil into borrowed vessels, the oil didn't run out; the jars did. God is never intimidated by your emptiness; He is simply waiting for you to bring Him an honest jar.

  • Fresh Oil is for Fresh Assignments: David was anointed in the field long before he was appointed to the palace. Yesterday's oil was for yesterday. Today's field, your current marriage, your current job, your current struggles, require fresh grace.

  • Fresh Oil Produces Fresh Fruit: The Holy Spirit doesn't just give us gifts to impress a room; He grows fruit in us to change a street. The ultimate goal of the anointing is not to look powerful, but to look exactly like Jesus.

"The size of the miracle matched the size of the room she made. God did not run dry at jar number seven. She ran out of jars!"
