Your Worth Is Not Your Wealth
"He who trusts in his riches will fall, but the righteous will flourish like foliage."
Proverbs 11:28 (NKJV)
There is a question asked at every funeral, though rarely out loud: how much did he leave? It seems almost too crass to say, and yet it is often the first thought. As though the measure of a life is the accumulation left behind.
There is also a habit of introduction that reveals how deeply we have absorbed the world's measure of worth. 'This is Bob. He works for...' As though where you work determines who you are. As though your position in a company is the most relevant thing about you. As though value is a function of productivity, status, or salary.
God does not see it this way. Not even slightly.
The Bible is consistent and clear: your worth does not come from what you do, the clothes you wear, the house you live in, the car you drive, the size of your salary, or the title on your business card. Your worth comes from the fact that God made you, God loves you, and Christ died for you.
That is an extraordinary source of worth. Not temporary, not market-dependent, not affected by redundancy or recession or the opinions of others. It is fixed. Permanent. Grounded in the eternal love of the God who made you and the sacrifice of the Son who redeemed you.
This truth has enormous practical implications. It means you do not have to perform to be loved. You do not have to achieve to be valued. You do not have to impress anyone to matter. You already matter, infinitely, simply because of who made you and who died for you.
And it means that the things we spend so much energy accumulating, defending, and protecting are not the source of our significance. The rich man who dies leaves it all behind. But the child of God takes everything that truly matters with them.
Get your identity from Christ today. You are of infinite worth to Him.
Prayer: Lord, forgive me for measuring my worth by things that do not last. Help me to receive my identity from You, not from what I do or own or achieve. I am made by You, loved by You, and redeemed by Christ. That is enough. In Jesus' name, Amen.
