Two Paths, Two Destinations

"Wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it."

Matthew 7:13 (NIV)

Advertisers know a powerful truth about human psychology: we are far more likely to do something if we believe that everyone else is doing it. The herd instinct runs deep. We take comfort in the crowd and feel anxious when we stand apart from it.

Satan uses exactly this mechanism. He points to the broad road, to the majority, to the apparent happiness of those who are living for themselves, and he whispers: Look at everyone else. They're having a good time. Why would you choose a harder path? Follow the crowd.

But the crowd is walking toward destruction. And the majority is wrong.

This is one of the most countercultural things Jesus ever said, and He said it very clearly. There are two roads. One is broad, popular, and well-travelled. One is narrow and less taken. And they do not go to the same place. This is not intolerance or elitism. It is honest geography.

The broad road is broad because it asks nothing of you. No repentance. No submission. No death to self. No cross. It accommodates every preference and every lifestyle because it has no direction. And a path without a clear direction cannot lead you anywhere worth going.

The narrow road is narrow because it runs through the gate of Christ: through surrender, through repentance, through genuine commitment to follow Him wherever He leads. It is less comfortable. It is less popular. But it leads somewhere real and it leads somewhere glorious.

Which road are you on? Not which road did you once choose, or which road do you intend to be on. Right now, in the actual direction of your life, which road are you walking?

There is still time to change roads. The gate is still open. But do not let another day go by without Christ.

Prayer: Lord, help me to choose the narrow road without apology and to walk it faithfully. When the broad road seems appealing and the crowd seems inviting, remind me where each road leads. Keep me on Your path. In Jesus' name, Amen.
