Fighting for the Mind
Romans 12:2 (NLT) - "Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think."
Sometimes your battle is different. Your child isn't running away from God, but the world is trying to put limitations on their mind. They are being told they won't amount to anything. Remember the story of Sonya Carson? She was a single mother with a third-grade education, raising boys in poverty. The world labelled her boys as statistics, destined for failure.
But Sonya secured the promise of their potential. She limited their TV time, refused excuses, and forced them to read and write reports. She fought for her child's mind. And her son, Ben Carson, became a world-renowned neurosurgeon. John Piper urges us in Don't Waste Your Life, "God created us to live with a single passion to joyfully display his supreme excellence in all the spheres of life." We must not allow the world to dumb down the potential of our children. We must fight for their minds, challenging them to pursue excellence for the glory of God.
Prayer:
Father, I pray that You will protect the minds of the next generation from confusion, deception, and harmful influences. Help me to diligently instill a spirit of excellence in my children, encouraging them to pursue their God-given potential and refuse to accept the low expectations imposed by the surrounding culture. May Your truth and wisdom guide their hearts in all they do. In Jesus' name, Amen.
