Today, I want to share a message that is close to my heart. It's about walking with Jesus and the incredible journey of transformation and newness that comes with it. In our busy lives, it's easy to get caught up in old habits and patterns. But Jesus calls us to a life of continual renewal and growth.

A Teachable Spirit

One of the first steps in walking with Jesus is to approach Him with a teachable spirit. Romans 12:2 reminds us, "Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind." This scripture invites us to let go of our old ways and embrace the newness that Jesus offers. Having a teachable spirit means being open to change, willing to learn, and eager to grow. It's about letting go of what we think we know and allowing Jesus to guide us in His wisdom and love.

Seeking His Face

In our walk with Jesus, it's crucial to seek His Face with an open mind. Often, we hold onto our own understanding and resist the new paths He sets before us. But true transformation comes when we let go and seek His guidance. Jeremiah 29:11 reassures us, "For I know the plans I have for you, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." Jesus has a perfect plan for each of us, and when we seek His Face, we align ourselves with His divine purpose.

Being Transformed

Transformation is a continuous process. It's not a one-time event but a journey of being renewed every day. As we focus our thoughts on Jesus, we become more like Him. This transformation is not just about changing our actions but renewing our minds. When we fill our minds with His Word and His promises, we begin to see life through His perspective. We start to think, act, and love like Jesus.

One of the most comforting truths about walking with Jesus is knowing that He is fully attentive to us. His attention span is infinite. He sees us, understands us completely, and loves us with everlasting love. This divine attention means that we are never alone. In every moment, in every situation, Jesus is right there with us, guiding us and embracing us in His love. Knowing that we have His undivided attention gives us the confidence to face any challenge and the peace to rest in His presence.

Plans to Prosper

Jesus has incredible plans for each of us. Jeremiah 29:11 speaks of these plans - plans to prosper us, not to harm us, plans to give us hope and a future. These plans are filled with His love and goodness. Sometimes, life's challenges can make us doubt these promises. But even in the toughest times, Jesus is working behind the scenes, aligning everything for our good. Trusting in His plans means surrendering our fears and doubts and embracing the hope and future He has promised.

Walking with Jesus is an adventure. It's a journey of increasing attentiveness to His presence. Every day is an opportunity to experience His love, guidance, and transformation. As we grow in our relationship with Him, we become more aware of His presence in every aspect of our lives. This awareness brings joy, peace, and purpose. It turns ordinary moments into divine encounters and fills our lives with meaning and direction.

Focusing on Him

In our fast-paced world, it's easy to get distracted. However, focusing our thoughts on Jesus is essential for our spiritual growth. When we set our minds on Him, we find clarity and peace. He becomes our anchor in the storms of life and our guide in times of uncertainty. By focusing on Jesus, we draw strength and inspiration from His example. We learn to love as He loves, forgive as He forgives, and live as He lived.

Jesus knows and understands us completely. His thoughts embrace us in everlasting love. This deep understanding means that He knows our struggles, our fears, and our dreams. He knows what we need even before we ask. His love is unconditional and never-ending. It is a love that accepts us as we are but also calls us to become who we are meant to be. Embracing His love means letting go of our insecurities and stepping into the fullness of His grace.

Living in Newness

A close walk with Jesus is a life of continual newness. Every day is a fresh start, a new opportunity to grow in His love and grace. When we cling to old ways, we miss out on the new things He wants to do in our lives. But when we embrace the newness He offers, we experience transformation and growth. Living in newness means being open to His leading, ready to step out in faith, and willing to be changed by His Spirit.

Heavenly Father, we thank You for the incredible journey of walking with Jesus. Thank You for the transformation and newness that comes from being in Your presence. Help us to have a teachable spirit, eager to be changed and renewed by Your Word. Give us the courage to let go of old ways and embrace the new paths You have set before us. Lord, we seek Your Face with open minds and open hearts. We trust in Your plans, knowing that they are filled with hope and a future. Fear is a common human experience, an emotion as old as humanity itself. It affects our lives and decisions, often creating a dense fog that seems impenetrable. However, the message of the Bible brings a luminous truth: as believers, we are not destined to remain ensnared by fear. Today, let us explore how to navigate through this fog with faith, guided by the profound words of Romans 8:15-16.

Romans 8:15-16 (NIV) 15 The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.” 16 The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children.

Sometimes, we may experience sudden fear that can overwhelm us due to various challenges such as health problems, financial instability, or personal losses. This fear can make us feel uncertain about the future and impair our decision-making abilities. Essentially, fear tries to weaken our faith and disconnect us from the truth of God's word and His promises.

In Romans 8:15-16, the Apostle Paul presents a powerful antidote to fear: "For you did not receive a spirit that makes you a slave again to fear, but you received the Spirit of sonship. And by him we cry, ‘Abba, Father.’ The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children."

These verses are a cornerstone for our faith, a direct declaration of our identity in Christ. As children of God, we are not held captive by fear. Instead, we are embraced by the spirit of sonship, an inheritance that liberates us from the chains of fear and elevates us into a state of divine assurance and familial intimacy with God.

To embrace our sonship is to understand our position in God's family. This revelation is transformative. It changes how we view ourselves and our circumstances. The Holy Spirit plays a crucial role in our journey of overcoming fear. As our Comforter and Guide, the Spirit continually affirms our identity as God's children. He speaks to our spirits, reminding us of who we are in Christ: beloved, chosen, and secure. The Spirit's voice cuts through the fog of fear, guiding us with clarity and peace.

Practical Steps to Overcoming Fear

1. Stay Rooted in the Word: The Bible is replete with promises of God’s protection, presence, and provision. Daily immersion in the Scriptures renews our mind and fortifies our spirit.

2. Prayer and Worship: Engaging in prayer and worship shifts our focus from our fears to our Father. It positions our hearts to receive truth and strengthens our spiritual resolve.

The Foundation of Joy: Jesus said to His disciples,

John 15:9-11 (NIV) 9 “As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love. 10 If you keep my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commands and remain in his love. 11 I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete.

These verses aren't just words; they are an invitation from Jesus to live a life immersed in His divine love.

1. Understanding the Depth of Jesus' Love:

   Imagine the magnitude of love Jesus mentions here, the same love the Father has for Him, He extends to us. It's a pure, powerful, and profound love that transcends human understanding. It starts with a commitment to follow His teachings and commandments, which are designed not as burdens but as pathways to a fuller, more joyful life.

Each day, we have the opportunity to choose love, to forgive, to serve, and to extend kindness. Choosing the right friends involves more than following gut feelings. It requires intentional discernment and a clear understanding of the traits that support mutual growth. Here are some tips on selecting friends who will enrich your life:

In our own lives, the expectations we harbour set the limits for what we achieve. When we expect little, we often achieve little. In the heart of every challenge lies a promise of hope. This belief, though sometimes hard to hold onto, is essential, especially when navigating the valleys of life’s trials. Today, we turn our hearts and minds to a powerful Scripture from the book of Job, particularly focusing on Job 3:25, where Job confesses, "What I feared has come upon me; what I dreaded has happened to me." 

While this verse may initially resonate with despair, it also opens a door to a profound understanding of expectation and manifestation.

Job’s story is one of immense faith and distressing trials. His experience leads us to a pivotal point about our own lives: the nature of our expectations. Often, without realising it, we allow our fears to take root in our hearts, overshadowing our hopes. What if we redirected that energy? What if the seeds we planted in the soil of our souls were seeds of hope and not dread?

Cultivating Hope

Cultivating hope is akin to tending a garden. It begins with selecting the right seeds—thoughts of success, healing, joy, and victory. Each thought, when nurtured by prayer and faith, can grow into a strong, visible manifestation in our lives. But how do we start this process?

1. Identify Your Hopes: Start by clearly defining what you hope for. Is it peace in your family? Success in your career? Healing from illness? Identifying your hopes is the first step to seeing them fulfilled.

3. Weed Out Fears: Just as a gardener removes weeds to prevent them from choking the plants, we must remove fears that threaten to stifle our hope. Replace each fearful thought with a promise from God’s Word.

4. Water Your Hopes with Prayer: Prayer is the water that nourishes our hopes. It connects us directly to God, allowing us to lay down our burdens and reinforce our spirits with divine strength.

Families that were once broken by strife have found restoration, and the sick who were declared incurable have been healed. The Faith of Abraham

Romans 4:18 (NLT) says, “18 Even when there was no reason for hope, Abraham kept hoping—believing that he would become the father of many nations. For God had said to him, “That’s how many descendants you will have!”

Abraham chose to believe in God’s promise despite his old age and his wife Sarah’s barrenness. This promise was not just about having a child but also about creating nations and establishing a legacy that would endure for generations.

Abraham faced a seemingly impossible situation according to human standards, but he had faith which meant believing in something beyond what we can see or comprehend. This strong trust in God’s word transformed Abraham’s life, not because he was without doubt or fear, but because he chose to believe in spite of them.

What is Faith?

Faith is more than just a feeling; it is an action. It is the decision to trust in God’s promises and to hold onto hope even when the circumstances seem contrary. Faith is not passive; it actively seeks to align with God’s vision, trusting that He will fulfill His promises in His timing.

In Hebrews 11:1, we are taught, “Faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.” Abraham’s story embodies this definition. He did not see the children or the nations God promised him when the promise was given, yet he believed. His faith was counted to him as righteousness.

How can we, like Abraham, live a life of faith? It begins with hearing the word of God. Romans 10:17 (NLT) states, “So faith comes from hearing, that is, hearing the Good News about Christ.” To build our faith, we need to immerse ourselves in the Scriptures, to let the living words of God resonate in our hearts and minds.

But it does not stop with hearing; it must translate into belief and action. James 2:26 (NLT) reminds us, “Just as the body is dead without breath, so also faith is dead without good works.” Our actions, which are based on our faith, serve as evidence of our belief in the promises of God.

Trials and challenges often seem to contradict God’s promises. You may find yourself facing health issues, financial difficulties, or relationship problems, and wonder where God is in these trials. Yet, these challenges are often the soil in which our faith grows deepest roots.

James 1:2-4 (NIV) 2 Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, 3 because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. 4 Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.

The blessing of God follows the faithful, not because we earn His blessings through our faith, but because our faith positions us to receive what God has already freely given. Faith aligns us with God’s will, opening doors to His blessings, which may come as peace in turmoil, joy in sadness, or provision in need.

Remember, God’s timing is perfect. Abraham waited 25 years from the promise to the birth of Isaac. The waiting period, although difficult, is where we grow closer to God and strengthen our faith.

While we are called to knock, the opening of the door remains in God’s hands. His timing is perfect, orchestrating our lives with precision and care. Trusting in His timing can sometimes be the hardest part, but it is also the most rewarding.
