The Tar and Pitch of Prayer

Exodus 2:3 (NIV) "But when she could hide him no longer, she got a papyrus basket for him and coated it with tar and pitch. Then she placed the child in it and put it among the reeds along the bank of the Nile."

Vision alone is not enough; you have to apply the tar and the pitch. Jochebed knew that the Nile River was treacherous. If water breached the basket, her baby would drown. The sealant was what kept the death of the river out and the life of the child secure. As spiritual architects, we must seal the vessels of our homes.

We seal them with prayer. Every time you pray over your child, your spouse, or your future, you are applying a thick layer of spiritual protection. You are sealing them against the anxiety of the age, peer pressure, and worldly values. E.M. Bounds wrote in his book titled Power Through Prayer, "Prayer is the one hand that can alter the course of the universe." It is certainly the hand that alters the course of our homes. If your family feels like a leaking boat right now, go back to the basics. Apply the tar and pitch of intercession.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, I bring my family before You. I apply the tar and pitch of prayer over their minds, hearts, and futures. Keep the toxic waters of this world from seeping into our home. Lord Jesus, be the anchor and the foundation of our household. Cover us with Your precious blood and surround us with Your unfailing love. Let Your presence fill every room, driving out every fear and doubt. Guide us daily to trust in You, knowing You are our ultimate Protector and Saviour. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
