The Enemy Pays the Bill

Exodus 2:9 (NIV) "Pharaoh’s daughter said to her, 'Take this baby and nurse him for me, and I will pay you.” So the woman took the baby and nursed him."

The providence of God is staggeringly beautiful. When Jochebed surrendered her son, Pharaoh’s daughter stepped into the river to bathe. She found the baby, had compassion, and hired a Hebrew nurse. Who did Miriam fetch? Moses’ own mother. The very government that ordered the child’s death ended up paying his mother to nurse him!

J.I. Packer wrote in Knowing God, "God’s providence is the unceasing activity of the Creator whereby, in overflowing bounty and goodwill, He upholds His creatures... and directs everything to its appointed end." Only God can write a story like this. When you surrender your plans to the Lord, He has a way of turning the enemy’s tactics upside down. The enemy was literally paying for the upbringing of the Deliverer who would eventually bring down his empire. See the gold, seal the vessel, surrender the results, and watch God work.

Prayer:

Lord Jesus, God of Providence, Your ways are higher than my ways! Thank You for Your ability to turn the enemy's plans upside down. I trust Your sovereign timing today and surrender my anxieties into Your loving hands. Jesus, just as You are the Deliverer, deliver my family and me from every scheme set against us. Fill my heart with confidence in Your victory on the cross, knowing no weapon formed against us will prosper. Teach me to rest in Your faithful promises, and help me to see Your hand at work even when I do not understand. May Your name be glorified in every outcome. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
