Strategic Surrender
Exodus 2:4 (NIV) "His sister stood at a distance to see what would happen to him."
Notice that Jochebed did not just throw Moses into the raging current and hope for the best. She placed him among the reeds. This was not a reckless surrender; it was a strategic surrender. She positioned him in a place where he could be found, while his sister Miriam stood at a distance to keep watch.
Surrender does not mean abandoning our responsibility; it means transferring the ultimate outcome into God’s hands. Andrew Murray captured this beautifully in Absolute Surrender: "God does not ask you to give the perfect surrender in your strength, or by the power of your will; God is willing to work it in you." When we let go strategically, our surrender is not an exit; it is an entrance for God to step in. We position our families in the atmosphere of grace, keep a watchful eye of prayer, and let the Sovereign Lord do what only He can do.
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, teach me the balance of strategic surrender. Help me to do my part faithfully, and then step back to allow You to work Your sovereign will. Remind me that You surrendered all for me on the cross, and call me daily to trust Your loving wisdom. Fill my heart with courage as I lay my deepest cares at Your feet, believing You hold every outcome in Your nail-pierced hands. Grant me grace to rest in Your presence, knowing that Your plans are always good and Your love never fails. Thank You for being my Good Shepherd and for leading my family with compassion and strength. In Your precious name, Amen.
