Leaking Boats and Dangerous Waters
Romans 3:23 (NIV) "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God."
Jochebed’s story is more than a lesson in parenting. It shows us the Gospel in action. In many ways, we are all like that small basket on the Nile, drifting through a world that feels dangerous and overwhelming. Our own sinful nature and the brokenness around us pull us toward judgment, just like a strong current.
Augustine famously prayed in his Confessions, "You have made us for yourself, O Lord, and our heart is restless until it rests in you." We often try to fix our lives with good deeds, money, or by trying to be better people. We tell ourselves we are safe, but the truth is, we still struggle. We cannot protect ourselves from God’s judgment or the pain in this world. We truly need someone to rescue us.
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, I recognise that I am drifting and my life is leaking. My own efforts cannot save me, and I desperately need You to intervene. Thank You for leaving heaven to rescue me, for stepping into the waters of this world to save me from sin and death. I trust in Your sacrifice on the cross and Your victory over the grave. Wash me clean, seal my heart with Your Spirit, and anchor my life in Your unfailing grace. Draw me closer to You each day, and give me faith to surrender fully, knowing You alone are my Saviour. In Your precious name, Amen.
