Day 3 - Jesus died so that He might ransom people
“45 For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.””
A Ransom for Many
Today on our third day of prayer and fasting, we are looking at how Jesus died so that He might ransom people.
A ransom is a sum of money, goods, or other considerations that is demanded or paid in exchange for the release of a person, usually one who has been kidnapped or held captive.
Jesus died on the cross as a sacrifice for the sins of humanity, and through His death and resurrection, He offers redemption and salvation to all who believe in Him.
Jesus' death is the payment for the sins of humanity. Sin had separated us from God. But through His death and resurrection, Jesus reconciled humanity to God, making it possible for us to be saved and have eternal life.
This is the gospel, the good news of Jesus Christ.
The Price That Was Paid
Jesus said this when two of His disciples had asked for the best seats in His Kingdom. He told them that the rulers of this world lord it over people, but that it must be different among His followers. Whoever wants to be great must be a servant (Mark 10:42–44).
Then He pointed to Himself. He came to serve, and the greatest service He gave was His life. Peter tells us what the ransom cost. We were not redeemed with silver or gold, but with the precious blood of Christ (1 Peter 1:18–19).
A ransom changes who we belong to. You are not your own, because you were bought at a price (1 Corinthians 6:19–20). We now belong to the One who bought us, and we follow His example by serving others.
Pray It Through
Thank Him for the price. Take a moment to thank Jesus that He gave His life for you.
Give yourself back. Tell Him that you belong to Him, and offer Him today.
Serve someone. Ask God to show you one person you can serve without being noticed.
Let us pray
Heavenly Father, We come before you today, humbled by the sacrifice of your son Jesus Christ, who came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many. May we be a reflection of your love to those around us, In Jesus precious name, Amen.
