Day 21: Living as Kingdom Ambassadors - 21 Days of Prayer and Fasting

Sent to Represent the King

Welcome to Day 21, the final day of our 21 Days of Prayer and Fasting. Well done for reaching this point. Whether you kept every day or stumbled along the way, God has seen every prayer.

Three weeks ago we began by asking what the Kingdom of God is. We finish by asking what we are meant to do with it. Paul answers:

“We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God.” 2 Corinthians 5:20 (NIV)

What an Ambassador Is

A Citizen of Another Country

An ambassador lives in one country and belongs to another. That is our position. Our citizenship is in heaven (Philippians 3:20), and for now we are posted here: in our street, our workplace, our school and our family.

A Representative

An ambassador does not speak for himself. People form their view of a king from the person he has sent. For many of those around us, we are the nearest thing to Jesus they will meet this week.

A Person with a Message

Paul says that God reconciled us to Himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation (2 Corinthians 5:18–19). Our message is not “try harder”. It is that God has made a way back to Himself through the cross, and that the door is open.

How Ambassadors Live

A Life That Can Be Seen

Jesus said to let our light shine before others, so that they may see our good deeds and glorify our Father in heaven (Matthew 5:16). The way we live either supports the message or undermines it.

In His Name, in Everything

Whatever we do, in word or deed, we are to do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus (Colossians 3:17). There is no part of an ambassador’s life that is off duty. The washing-up, the meeting and the school run all belong to Him.

With Good News on Our Lips

Isaiah says how beautiful on the mountains are the feet of those who bring good news, who proclaim peace and who say, “Your God reigns!” (Isaiah 52:7). People are waiting for good news. We have been trusted with the best there is.

After the Fast

Tomorrow the fast is over. Please do not let the things God has done in you be over with it.

  • Keep the appointment. You have made time for God every day for three weeks. Keep that time in your day.

  • Keep one change. What has God spoken to you about most clearly in these 21 days? Write it down and act on it.

  • Keep together. We grow best alongside others. If you are not yet part of a Life Group, this is a good moment to join one.

Three Steps for Today

  • Give thanks. Look back over the 21 days and thank God for what He has shown you, answered or begun.

  • Name your posting. Where has God placed you? Pray for that place and the people in it by name.

  • Deliver the message. Ask God for one opportunity this week to tell someone that they can be reconciled to Him.

Prayer for Today:
Lord Jesus, thank You for these 21 days and for all You have done in me. Thank You for reconciling me to God through Your cross. I am Your ambassador. Send me into my home, my work and my community to represent You well. Let my life and my words point people to You, and keep me close to You long after this fast has ended. Your Kingdom come. In Your name, Amen.

Keep going
