Day 17: Kingdom Faith: Trusting God’s Promises - 21 Days of Prayer and Fasting

Sure of What We Cannot See

Welcome to Day 17 of our 21 Days of Prayer and Fasting. Many of us began this fast with something we are asking God for. Today is about how to hold on while we wait for the answer.

The writer of Hebrews says:

“Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.” Hebrews 11:1 (NIV)

What Faith Rests On

The One Who Promised

Faith is only as strong as the person it is placed in. Our confidence does not come from how much faith we can work up. It comes from the character of God. Hebrews urges us to hold on to our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful (Hebrews 10:23).

The Word He Has Spoken

Faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ (Romans 10:17). Faith is not a guess about what God might do. It is a response to what He has said.

People Who Trusted Him

Hebrews 11 is a gallery of ordinary people who took God at His word.

  • Abraham was promised a son when it was humanly impossible. He did not waver through unbelief, being fully persuaded that God had power to do what He had promised (Romans 4:20–21).

  • Moses left the security of Egypt and persevered because he saw Him who is invisible (Hebrews 11:27).

  • David walked towards a giant while he was still a young shepherd. His confidence was in the Lord who had rescued him before (1 Samuel 17:37).

None of them could see the outcome in advance. Each of them knew who had spoken.

Faith for the Waiting

When We Cannot See the Way

We live by faith, not by sight (2 Corinthians 5:7). That does not mean ignoring the facts. It means refusing to treat the facts as the whole story.

When We Do Not Understand

Proverbs tells us to trust in the Lord with all our heart and not to lean on our own understanding. As we submit to Him in all our ways, He makes our paths straight (Proverbs 3:5–6).

When It Is Taking a Long Time

We know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him (Romans 8:28). Paul does not say that all things are good. He says that God is at work in all of them.

Faith does not put God in our debt. It pleases Him because it takes Him at His word (Hebrews 11:6).

Three Steps for Today

  • Find the promise. Take the thing you are praying for and look for what God’s Word says about it. Write the verse down.

  • Remember. Think of a time when God came through for you. Thank Him for it, and let it feed your faith for today.

  • Take the step. Is there an act of obedience you have put off because you could not see how it would work out? Take it.

Prayer for Today:
Faithful God, thank You that You always keep Your word. I bring You the things I am still waiting for. Forgive me for the times I have trusted what I can see more than what You have said. Strengthen my faith as I read Your Word. Help me to trust You with all my heart, and to keep walking when I cannot see the way. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
