Day 13: Kingdom Purity: Holiness in Thought and Deed - 21 Days of Prayer and Fasting

Called to Be Like Our Father

Welcome to Day 13 of our 21 Days of Prayer and Fasting. Today’s theme can sound heavy, but it is really an invitation to become like the One who loves us.

Peter writes:

“But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; for it is written: ‘Be holy, because I am holy.’” 1 Peter 1:15–16 (NIV)

What Holiness Is

Set Apart for God

To be holy is to be set apart. It means that we belong to God and are different because of it. Holiness is not first a list of rules. It is the family likeness of the children of a holy Father.

Whole-Life Holiness

Peter says “in all you do”. Holiness is not kept for Sundays. It reaches into how we speak at home, what we watch when nobody is with us, how we handle money and how we treat people who cannot do anything for us.

Where Holiness Begins

In the Heart

Jesus said that the pure in heart are blessed, for they will see God (Matthew 5:8). Outward behaviour matters, but it flows from what is inside. That is why David prayed for a pure heart and a steadfast spirit (Psalm 51:10).

In the Mind

We are transformed by the renewing of our minds (Romans 12:2). What we dwell on shapes what we become, so Paul tells us to think about whatever is true, noble, right, pure, lovely and admirable (Philippians 4:8).

In the Body

Paul urges us to offer our bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God (Romans 12:1). What we do with our bodies is part of our worship.

Holiness and Grace

None of us manages this in our own strength. Holiness is the work of the Holy Spirit in a life that is surrendered to Him. And when we fall, there is a way back. If we confess our sins, God is faithful and just, and He will forgive us and purify us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9).

Holiness is not about condemnation. It is about being restored and drawn closer.

Three Steps for Today

  • Ask God to search you. Sit quietly and ask the Holy Spirit to show you anything that displeases Him. Do not rush.

  • Confess and receive. Name it honestly before God, and then receive His forgiveness. Do not carry what He has cleansed.

  • Guard one gate. Choose one practical change today in what you watch, read or listen to.

A fast is a good time for this. We lay food aside for a while, and we ask God to help us lay aside whatever else has been getting in the way.

Prayer for Today:
Holy God, thank You for calling me to be Yours. Search my heart and show me anything that does not please You. Forgive me and make me clean. Create in me a pure heart, and renew my mind by Your Word. Holy Spirit, give me the desire and the power to live a holy life in all I do. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
