Day 20: When the Wolf Lives with the Lamb

Bible passage: Isaiah 11:6–10

A Bigger Peace Than We Imagined

Today is Thursday 20th of January 2022. Welcome to Day 20 of our 21 Days of Prayer and Fasting. So far we have seen God’s peace reach individuals, homes, the church and the nations. Today Isaiah shows us that it reaches further still.

Isaiah 11 opens with a promise that a new shoot will grow from the family line of David. The Spirit of the Lord will rest on Him, and He will rule with justice for the poor. Then Isaiah describes what the world will look like under His reign.

Creation at Peace

Enemies Become Neighbours

The wolf will live with the lamb. The leopard will lie down beside the young goat. The calf and the lion will be safe together, and a little child will lead them. A baby will play near the cobra’s hole and come to no harm (Isaiah 11:6–8).

It is a picture of a world with no fear in it. “Nothing will hurt or destroy in all my holy mountain.” Isaiah 11:9 (NLT)

Why the Peace Comes

Isaiah gives the reason. The earth will be filled with people who know the Lord, as fully as the waters fill the sea. Peace spreads wherever God is truly known.

And in that day the heir to David’s throne will stand as a banner for all peoples, and the nations will gather to Him (Isaiah 11:10). That heir is Jesus.

Living Towards That Day

Creation Is Waiting

Paul tells us that the whole creation is waiting eagerly for the day it will be set free from death and decay (Romans 8:19–21). The last enemy to be destroyed is death itself (1 Corinthians 15:26). The salvation Jesus brings is big enough to renew everything sin has damaged.

How We Respond

  • Worship the King. Psalm 98 calls us to sing a new song, because the Lord has done wonderful things and shown His victory to the nations.

  • Humble yourself. His plans are far greater than ours. Give Him your life again today as your God and King.

  • Spread the knowledge of the Lord. Peace comes as people come to know Him. Who can you tell about Jesus this week?

  • Pray, “Come, Lord Jesus.” That is the prayer of the church in every generation (Revelation 22:20).

Habakkuk saw the same future: the earth filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea (Habakkuk 2:14).

Prayer for Today:
Lord Jesus, Your vision for this world is so much greater than mine. Thank You that a day is coming when nothing will hurt or destroy. Until then, make me a carrier of Your peace. Let the knowledge of You fill my home, our church and our city. I give You my life again today. Come, Lord Jesus. Amen.
