Day 14: Walking in the Light of the Lord

Bible passage: Isaiah 2:2–5

Two Weeks of Seeking God

Today is Friday 14th of January 2022. Welcome to Day 14 of our 21 Days of Prayer and Fasting. We have reached the end of our second week. Thank God for what He has already done, and let us press on.

Today Isaiah lifts our eyes from our own lives to the future of the whole world.

A Vision of the Last Days

The Nations Come

Isaiah sees a day when the mountain of the Lord’s house will be raised above every other. People from many nations will stream to it, saying to one another, “Come, let us go up. He will teach us His ways and we will walk in His paths” (Isaiah 2:2–3).

Weapons Become Tools

Then the Lord Himself will settle disputes between nations. They will hammer their swords into ploughs and their spears into pruning hooks. Nation will no longer fight against nation, and nobody will train for war any more (Isaiah 2:4).

Picture it. The metal that once took life is reshaped to grow food. Budgets, skill and energy that went into destruction are turned to building and harvest.

Living Now in the Light of Then

A Promise Only God Can Keep

We should work and pray for peace wherever we can. But we must be honest: no government or treaty will ever bring this about in full. This peace comes when the King returns and the nations learn His ways. Our hope is not in human progress. It is in Jesus.

The Invitation

Isaiah does not leave the vision in the future. He turns straight to his own people and says, “Come, descendants of Jacob, let us walk in the light of the Lord!” Isaiah 2:5 (NLT) If that is where history is heading, we should start living that way today.

  • Lay down a weapon. What do you fight with? Sharp words, silence, sarcasm, a grudge? Hand it to God and ask Him to turn it into something that builds.

  • Go up and learn. The nations come to be taught. Stay teachable. Let God’s Word correct you and direct you.

  • Pray for places at war. Name a nation in conflict today and ask the Lord to bring an end to the violence and to comfort those who suffer.

Zechariah, the father of John the Baptist, prophesied that the light from heaven was about to dawn on those in darkness, to guide us to the path of peace (Luke 1:78–79). Psalm 89:15 says that those who walk in the light of God’s presence are truly happy.

Prayer for Today:
Father, thank You that a day is coming when war will end and every nation will learn Your ways. Until that day, begin with me. I lay down the weapons I use against others. Teach me Your ways and help me walk in Your light. I pray for nations torn apart by conflict: bring peace, protect the innocent and let Your kingdom come. Amen.
