Bible passage: Jeremiah 29:11–13; Matthew 6:16–18
Welcome to 21 Days of Seeking God
Thank you for joining our 21 Days of Prayer and Fasting. From Friday 29th of March to Thursday 18th of April 2019 we are setting time aside to seek God together, and we will finish on the eve of Good Friday.
Our verse for these three weeks is a promise God made through Jeremiah. “If you look for me wholeheartedly, you will find me.” Jeremiah 29:13 (NLT)
God wants to be found. He is not hiding from us. Whoever looks for Him with a whole heart will not be disappointed.
What We Will Look At
Who God Is
Each day of this fast we will look at one part of God’s character. He is all-powerful and holy. He is righteous, forgiving, just and merciful. He loves, gives, guides and keeps His promises. He never leaves, He serves, He grieves, He corrects and He wins.
Why spend three weeks on this? Because what we believe about God shapes everything else. It decides how we pray, how we face trouble and how we treat other people. Many of our fears come from thinking that God is smaller, colder or further away than He really is. The cure is to look at Him as the Bible shows Him.
Prayer and Fasting Together
There is power in prayer, and there is something more when prayer and fasting come together. All through the Bible, God’s people fasted when they wanted to seek Him with their whole heart. Jesus took it for granted that His followers would. He said “when you fast”, not “if you fast” (Matthew 6:16).
Fasting does not earn God’s favour. It clears a space. Each time we feel the lack of what we have laid down, we turn that hunger into prayer.
How to Use These Guides
Twice a Day
Each guide gives you a Bible passage, a short reflection on who God is, some steps to take and a prayer. You might read the first half in the morning and come back to the steps and the prayer later in the day. Keep a notebook with you and write down what God shows you.
Ways to Fast
A complete fast. Liquids only. Begin with one meal or one day if this is new to you.
A selective fast. Leaving out certain foods, such as meat, sweets and bread.
A partial fast. Eating nothing for a set part of each day, such as sunrise to sunset.
A non-food fast. Laying down social media, television or another habit that fills your time.
A note on health: if you have a medical condition, are pregnant or are unsure whether a food fast is safe for you, please speak to your doctor first or choose a non-food fast.
Before Day 1
Decide your fast. Choose what you will lay down and for how long.
Fix a time and place. Decide when you will meet with God each day.
Write down what you are asking for. Name two or three things you are seeking God about in these three weeks.

Prayer for Today:
Father, You have promised that if I look for You wholeheartedly, I will find You. I want to know You better. Over these 21 days, show me who You really are. Clear away the wrong pictures I have of You. Give me grace to fast and a hunger to pray, and let me come to Easter knowing You more deeply than I do today. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Keep going
