Day 7: Loved with an Everlasting Love
Bible passage: Jeremiah 31:3; Romans 8:38–39; Zephaniah 3:17; 1 John 4:15–16
The End of the First Week
Today is Thursday 4th of April 2019. Welcome to Day 7 of our 21 Days of Prayer and Fasting. Well done for completing the first week. Today we come to the love of God.
We say “God loves you” so often that the words can lose their force. So let us listen to what God Himself says. “I have loved you, my people, with an everlasting love.” Jeremiah 31:3 (NLT)
The God Who Loves
Everlasting
God spoke those words to a people who had failed Him badly and were paying for it. He did not say that He would love them once they improved. He said that He had loved them with a love that has no beginning and no end, and that with unfailing love He had drawn them to Himself.
God’s love for you did not start on the day you first prayed. It will not stop on the day you let Him down.
Unbreakable
Paul makes a list of everything that might come between us and that love. Death and life. Angels and demons. Our fears for today and our worries about tomorrow. The powers of hell. Anything in the sky above or in the earth below. Then he gives his verdict. Nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord (Romans 8:38–39).
Notice that he includes our fears and our worries. Even the things going on inside us cannot do it.
Joyful
Zephaniah gives us a picture we would hardly dare to draw for ourselves. The Lord is living among His people. He is a mighty Saviour. He takes delight in them with gladness. With His love He calms all their fears, and He rejoices over them with joyful songs (Zephaniah 3:17).
God does not merely put up with you. He sings over you.
Living in His Love
Known and Believed
John writes that we know how much God loves us, and we have put our trust in His love. God is love, and all who live in love live in God, and God lives in them (1 John 4:16).
There are two steps there. We know it, and we trust it. Many of us know in our heads that God loves us, yet we live as if we still had to earn it. To live in His love is to make our home in it.
Three Steps for Today
Praise Him. Thank God that His love for you does not depend on how well you are doing.
Be honest. Do you find it hard to believe that God loves you? Tell Him why. Ask Him to open your heart to experience His love today.
Read it with your name in it. Read Romans 8:38–39 aloud, and put your own name where it says “us”.
Prayer for Today:
Father, thank You that You have loved me with an everlasting love, and that nothing in all creation can separate me from it. I confess that I often live as though I had to earn it. Calm my fears with Your love. Open my heart to know it and to trust it, and help me to make my home in Your love today. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
