Take Him as He Is

Ever faced an unexpected crisis right after doing exactly what God asked? In Mark 4, the disciples sailed directly into a furious, life-threatening squall simply because they obeyed Jesus’ command to cross the sea.

‭‭Mark‬ ‭4‬:‭35‬-‭41‬ ‭(NIV‬‬) “That day when evening came, He said to His disciples, “Let us go over to the other side.” Leaving the crowd behind, they took Him along, JUST AS HE WAS, in the boat. There were also other boats with Him. A furious squall came up, and the waves broke over the boat, so that it was nearly swamped. Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke Him and said to Him, “Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?” He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down, and it was completely calm. He said to His disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?” They were terrified and asked each other, “Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey Him!”

In this message, Pastor Terence reveals why surviving life's sudden turbulence requires us to stop staring at the waves and start trusting the true nature of Christ through three core truths:

  • The Power of "Just as He Was": The disciples took Jesus into the boat exhausted and unpolished from a long day of ministry. We don't need to change Jesus to fit our preferences, nor do we need to clean up our lives before approaching Him. He meets us in our raw reality.

  • Obedience Doesn't Exempt You: Facing a storm doesn't mean you've failed or disobeyed. Some storms are deliberate, strategic tests designed to expand your faith.

  • Shift Your Focus: Jesus modelled the ultimate rest by sleeping through the chaos. When you lose absolute control over your circumstances, it gives God the perfect opportunity to step in and reveal His glory.

"If you are going to go into a storm, go into the storm with Jesus. Because the boat that is carrying Jesus will never sink."
