Stewardship: The Sign of Loyalty

Welcome to this week's message from All Nations Community Church. This week, Pastor Mike O'Connor brings a direct, transparent, and encouraging teaching on a topic that often makes people uncomfortable: stewardship. This isn't a fundraising campaign or a plea for money, but an honest look at the condition of our hearts. How we manage our resources is the ultimate indicator of our alignment with our faith journey.

What is a Steward?

Stewardship simply means the job of supervising or taking care of something that belongs to another. The fundamental flaw in how both the world and many Christians view possessions is the illusion of ownership. We came into this world with nothing, and we will leave with nothing. Everything we accumulate is merely on loan from a sovereign God.

Generous management of our resources is the absolute evidence that our hearts are truly loyal to God. When we grasp this truth, we realise that when we give, we are not giving God what belongs to us we are simply returning a portion of what already came from His hand.

Three Questions: Why, How, and What We Give

To excel in this vital area of Christian living, Pastor Mike breaks down three essential questions:

  • Why Do We Give? We give because everything belongs to God and everything comes from Him as a gift (1 Chronicles 29:14). The offering is every bit as much an act of worship as the singing and the praise.

  • How Do We Give? We give both generously and willingly. Looking at 1 Chronicles 29, when the people saw the radical, personal generosity of King David, they were moved to follow suit. They gave wholeheartedly, without pressure, manipulation, or legalistic coercion.

  • What Do We Give? Biblical stewardship encompasses our financial resources (governed systematically by the principle of the tithe, or the first 10%), our hidden talents, and our precious time. It takes dedicated time to build the local church, look after families, and minister to our surrounding community.

"If God has your checkbook, you know He has your heart."

The Inspirational Takeaway: Take the Challenge

In Malachi 3:10, God issues a profound invitation. It is the only place in all of Scripture where God tells us to put Him to the test. He challenges us to bring the full tithe into the storehouse and see if He will not throw open the floodgates of heaven.

When you prioritise the Kingdom first, the remaining 90% goes further than 100% ever could on its own. It is a divine principle designed to cultivate real spiritual maturity and break the hold of systemic stinginess.
