To Be Empowered by the Holy Spirit

Are you living a safe life or a dangerous one? On this powerful Pentecost Sunday broadcast, Pastor Mike delivers a direct challenge to every believer settling for a shallow, legalistic church routine. Reflecting on the history-making East African Revival of 1935, Pastor Mike unpacks the true purpose of the baptism of the Holy Spirit. Discover why the Holy Spirit isn't a safe church program, but a helper sent to indwell your body, shatter structural fears, and endow you with supernatural gifts. Learn how to locate your unique spiritual calling and move in absolute authority for the common good of the body of Christ.

Too many Christians treat church as a predictable program rather than an ongoing encounter with the living God. But the Holy Spirit was never sent to maintain a routine. He was sent to provide an absolute inducement of power.

In this vital Pentecost Sunday message, Pastor Mike challenges us to shake off spiritual passivity and step out of our comfort zones.

Waking Up to Pentecostal Power

To move beyond natural limitations and experience true spiritual guidance, we must understand three foundational realities of the Holy Spirit:

  • You Carry the Permanent Residence of God: You are a walking, breathing temple of the living God (1 Corinthians 3:16). He is with you 24/7 as your Helper and Advocate.

  • You are Called to be Spiritually Dangerous: God does not desire for you to live a fragile life defined by fear or emotional torment. When we completely surrender to the Holy Spirit, His perfect love casts out fear and gives us bold authority.

  • You are Supernaturally Gifted: The Holy Spirit brings His graces, fruits, and supernatural gifts into your life. These enablements are given explicitly for the common good to build up the local church and reach a broken community.

"Ask and you will receive, or doubt and do without. The same Spirit that raised Christ from the dead is living right inside your mortal body."

Perfect Love, My Habitation

Feeling overwhelmed by life's storms? In this message, Jaya Swamy reveals how the Holy Spirit meets us right where we are to provide profound emotional, spiritual, and physical comfort. Discover the secret of "turning inward" to find perfect rest and peace in God.

Welcome to another week in our series on the Holy Spirit. In this message, Jaya Swamy guides us through the profound truth that the Holy Spirit is our ultimate source of comfort. Titled "Perfect Love, My Habitation," this sermon reminds us that God doesn't just want us to visit His presence—He wants to cohabit with us, becoming a permanent refuge in our everyday faith journey.

The Three Dimensions of Comfort

Jaya breaks down how the God of comfort meets us exactly where we are, offering restoration in three distinct ways:

  • Emotional Comfort Through Worship: Looking at the story of King Saul and David, we learn that when we face mental anguish or distress, turning to worship shifts the atmosphere. You don't have to be perfect or spiritually advanced; simply playing worship music and inviting the Spirit in can drive out heaviness and usher in emotional healing.

  • Spiritual Comfort Through Sacrifices of Praise: When David was fleeing from his son Absalom into the barren wilderness, he didn't complain about his physical discomfort. Instead, he thirsted for God. Even when you are in a dry, exhausting season, offering a sacrifice of praise assures the presence of God.

  • Physical Comfort Through the Word and Spirit: The prophet Elijah experienced intense burnout and fear while fleeing Jezebel. God didn't judge him or demand spiritual warfare; He offered him freshly baked bread, water, and sleep. In our own lives, we need true spiritual rest, balancing the "bread" of God's Word with the "living water" of the Holy Spirit.

Tune to the Holy Spirit. Turn your attention inwards via worship, prayer, being in the Word, and stillness to listen to Him.

The Inspirational Takeaway: Be a Hedgehog

When a hedgehog faces an enemy, it doesn't run or fight back aggressively it curls up inward, allowing its spikes to form an unbreakable protective barrier. When you find yourself overwhelmed by life's storms, don't fixate on the external enemies or circumstances. Curl inward. Turn your attention to the Holy Spirit living inside you, and let His presence expand to defend and engulf you.

The Counselor: Guided Into All Truth

A wrong diagnosis always leads to a wrong remedy. In this powerful message, Pastor Mike O'Connor unpacks the role of the Holy Spirit as our ultimate Counselor. Discover how the Spirit guides us into all truth, revealing the life-changing difference between healthy conviction and toxic condemnation.

Welcome back to our ongoing series on the Holy Spirit. This week, Pastor Mike O'Connor dives deep into the Holy Spirit's vital role as our Counsellor, Advocate, and Helper. In our Christian faith, we often misdiagnose the root of our struggles, and a wrong diagnosis always leads to a wrong remedy. But God hasn't left us to figure it out on our own. He has given us the Holy Spirit for perfect spiritual guidance.

The Three Dimensions of Conviction

Pastor Mike highlights that the Holy Spirit acts as a champion advocate who leads us into the Gospel truth through three specific avenues of conviction:

  • He Convicts the Believer: When we wander off the right path, the Holy Spirit lovingly presses our buttons. However, it is crucial to understand conviction vs condemnation. Condemnation comes from the enemy to bring shame and despair. Conviction comes from the Holy Spirit to bring spiritual freedom, giving us the power to reject sin and embrace the righteousness of Christ.

  • He Convicts the World: The Holy Spirit is actively working in the hearts of unbelievers, convicting them of the greatest sin: unbelief. He reveals that our own "goodness" is never enough, but that Jesus offers us a perfect robe of righteousness.

  • He Convicts the World Through Us: God partners with His people! Just as the Holy Spirit empowered the Apostle Peter to preach on the Day of Pentecost, He empowers us today. We are God's agents on earth, called to be eager participants in leading others to freedom.

"The goal of the Holy Spirit that convicts you and I is not to build a case against us, but it's a gift for you and I to have clarification... to help us get back on the right road again."

The Inspirational Takeaway: A Robe of Righteousness

It is easy to wake up and feel bogged down by your mistakes, as if you were wearing your own "filthy rags." But from the moment you accepted Christ, an incredible exchange took place. Jesus took on your sin and wrapped you in His perfect robe of righteousness. When you hear the Holy Spirit's voice, it isn't to tear you down; it is a gentle reminder of who you truly are in Christ.

The Call to Intercession

Are we sleeping through a spiritual crisis? In this urgent and challenging message, Terry Mupariwa calls the church to wake up from spiritual slumber and embrace the vital role of intercession. Discover how the Holy Spirit empowers us to move beyond self-centered requests and partner with God to advance His Kingdom.

Welcome to the start of our new series on the Holy Spirit. This week, Terry Mupariwa delivers a timely and urgent message about our responsibility as believers to stand in the gap. If we are not careful, we can easily sleep through the critical moments of our generation. But God is calling us to wake up, mount the watchtower, and embrace the powerful ministry of intercession.

Waking Up to the Spiritual Reality

We are living in a time where the enemy is actively trying to enforce dark ideologies in the world, with a specific, recent shift toward targeting young children through media and entertainment. In the face of this spiritual warfare, Ephesians 5 commands us to "wake up, sleeper." If parents and believers do not arise to pray and intercede, the enemy's agenda will go unchallenged. We have a divine responsibility to guard the coming generations through persistent prayer.

Moving Beyond Self-Motivated Prayer

It is easy for our prayer lives to become entirely focused on our own needs, bills, and desires. But Terry challenges us with the example of Abraham pleading for Sodom, and King Solomon asking for wisdom to lead God's people. When we put the Kingdom first, God promises to take care of our personal needs (Matthew 6:33).

"God wants to turn a people from self-motivated prayers into prayers that advance the Kingdom of God."

Empowered by the Spirit

Sometimes, we sit down to pray and immediately feel overwhelmed, exhausted, or simply unsure of where to start. The good news is that we are not left to do this in our own strength. According to Romans 8:26, when we do not know what to pray, the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. By praying in the Spirit, we bypass our fleshly limitations and pray the perfect will of God, ascending above our circumstances and making a real impact in the spiritual realm.
