The Catch Was Never the Point
Have you worked all night, given everything you have, and still ended up completely empty-handed? In this message, I unpack why your deepest failure might actually be the very platform Jesus wants to step into—and why the miracle was never about the fish.
Have you ever found yourself in a season where you did everything right, worked relentlessly through the night, and still ended up with nothing to show for it?
Disappointment has a subtle, dangerous way of schooling our expectations. If we let it, yesterday’s exhaustion will quickly try to prophesy defeat over tomorrow.
In Luke 5, we meet Peter, an experienced, hardworking fisherman standing by the shore washing his nets after a night of total failure. Washing the nets meant one thing: the work was over, and he was ready to pack it in. But right at Peter's lowest and most exhausted point, Jesus stepped onto the scene.
In this message, I explore four pivotal shifts from the shoreline of Galilee:
Failure: Why Jesus doesn't ask for what you lack, but asks for what is already in your hands.
Obedience: Why we cannot allow last night’s emptiness to become our working theology.
Encounter: How a genuine miracle always points past the blessing and reveals the Miracle Worker.
Surrender: The astonishing reason Peter and his crew left sinking boats full of fish behind on the sand.
"Faith is not pretending last night didn't happen. Faith is declaring: 'Lord, I'm exhausted, I don't understand the outcome, but because You say so, I will let down the nets.'"
