Nobody likes the word narrow. In fact, our culture has made narrow-mindedness into one of its primary insults. Because of this, when Jesus says that the road to life is narrow, many people flinch and dismiss the idea before they have really heard it. Grounded in Matthew 7:14, this daily devotional explores a powerful analogy. When the Apollo 11 spacecraft journeyed to the moon, engineers had to plot a trajectory that was extraordinarily precise. The slightest deviation would result in missing the destination entirely. Precision was not the enemy of the journey; it was the only thing that made the journey possible. Jesus does not describe the narrow road to be unkind or exclusive. He describes it to be honest. While the broad road accommodates every preference and leads to destruction, the narrow road requires submission to Christ. It is not popular, but it is the only road that leads to life.
