Jesus: The Light of the World

"Through him you believe in God, who raised him from the dead and glorified him, and so your faith and hope are in God."

1 Peter 1:21 (NIV)

We get so used to this world that we lose sight of the next. We get so accustomed to the darkness and chaos of our daily news that we stop being surprised by it. Violence, injustice, confusion, moral decay: these become the backdrop of ordinary life, and we begin to forget that there is a different reality, a brighter one, that has been promised.

Jesus said: I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life. That is not a poetic metaphor. It is a description of what life genuinely looks like when it is lived in relationship with the One who is light.

He is the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world. He is the Hope of the hopeless, the Saviour of the lost, the Guide of the wandering. He is the radiance of God's glory and the exact representation of His being. These are not titles invented by admirers. They are descriptions given by God Himself of His own Son.

Today, world leaders struggle with problems that genuinely seem insurmountable. The challenges facing humanity, at the global and personal levels, are real and serious. And no human institution, no political system, no philosophy or technology, has demonstrated the ability to solve them at the root.

But never lose sight of Jesus. In the middle of the persistent darkness of this world, He is the light that has not been extinguished. He was not extinguished at Calvary. He was not extinguished by centuries of opposition and persecution. And He will not be extinguished by anything this world can bring.

He is your hope. Not a comfortable hope or a vague optimism. A living hope, grounded in the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. A hope that has already defeated the worst that death and sin can do.

Keep looking at Him today. He is still the light of the world. And He is your light.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, You are the light of the world, and You are my light. When the darkness of this world feels overwhelming, help me to fix my eyes on You. Thank You that Your light cannot be extinguished. My faith and my hope are in You. Amen.
