God Wins
"Blessed is the one who reads the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear it and take to heart what is written in it, because the time is near."
Revelation 1:3 (NIV)
I want to let you in on a secret that can change your entire perspective on the world: I've read the last page. And God wins.
That is not naïveté. That is not spiritual denial of the real pain and chaos in the world. It is the testimony of Scripture, confirmed in the book of Revelation: Jesus Christ will triumph over every force of death, hell, and Satan. The kingdoms of this world will become the kingdom of our Lord. Evil will be destroyed. Justice will reign. And there will be everlasting joy.
The problem many of us have is that we read only the daily headlines and try to form our theology from what we see there. And if you only read the headlines, it does look bleak. Crime and war and injustice and suffering, cycling endlessly, with no resolution in sight.
But Revelation gives us a different picture. Not a denial of reality, but a bigger picture of reality. It says, "This is not the final chapter.” There is a chapter coming that will make every other chapter make sense. History has a destination, and that destination is the glorious rule of Christ.
This is not just good theology for a Sunday sermon. It is fuel for a Monday morning. Because when you know how the story ends, you can face whatever is in front of you today with courage.
Whatever challenge you are facing, in your personal life, in your family, in your community, in the wider world, no matter how dark it looks, this is not the end. You serve the One who has already won. You are on the winning side. Not by your merit or your power, but by the grace and victory of Jesus Christ.
Don't let the headlines shape your hope. Let the Word of God shape it. Read the last page when you need to.
God wins. And in Christ, so do you.
Prayer: Lord, renew my eternal perspective today. When the world around me feels overwhelming, remind me that You hold the final chapter. Thank You that in Christ I am already on the winning side. Help me live with that confidence. In Jesus' name, Amen.
