God Plus Nothing
“The Lord is my portion; therefore, I will wait for him.”
When God divided the promised land among the tribes of Israel, each tribe received a portion of land, hills, valleys, rivers, and vineyards.
But Levi was different.
The priests of Levi were not given land in the same way. God Himself was their inheritance. In other words, they did not just receive a piece of the blessing. They received the One who gives every blessing.
That is a powerful truth.
So often, we ask God for a slice. A job. A relationship. A home. Healing. Provision. An open door. Those prayers are not wrong. God is a good Father, and He delights to give good gifts to His children.
But there is a deeper prayer:
“Lord, I do not just want Your hand. I want Your face. You are my portion. You are enough.”
The world tells us we need more to be happy. More money. More attention. More security. More success. But the soul that has learnt to say, “The Lord is my portion,” has discovered a treasure this world cannot give.
If you have God, you have the Source. And the Source contains all the streams.
This does not mean life will always be easy. It does not mean you will never face loss, disappointment, or delay. But it does mean that your deepest joy does not have to depend on what you have, what you lose, or what you are waiting for.
God is not your back-up plan. He is your inheritance.
So here is the honest question: if God removed every other blessing and left you with only Himself, would He still be enough?
If the answer is hard to give, do not run from it. Bring it to Him. Ask Him to rearrange your heart. Ask Him to help you love the Giver more than the gifts.
Because God plus nothing is still everything.
Reflection
If God removed every other blessing from your life, would He alone still be enough?
What are you treating as your portion that God may be asking you to surrender back to Him?
Prayer
Lord, You are my portion. Help me to mean that, not just say it. Forgive me for looking for my deepest security in the things You created rather than in You, the Creator. Teach my heart to treasure You above every blessing. Whether I have much or little, I have You, and that makes me rich beyond measure. Amen.
Declaration
The Lord is my portion. I have Him, and in Him I have everything I truly need.
