Good morning, ANCC Men of Honour! Welcome to this blessed Monday. As we reflect on last week’s water baptism, let us draw inspiration from Matthew 3:17 (NIV), which recounts the baptism of Jesus by John the Baptist. This deep event was a key moment where Jesus embraced His divine mission, and the Bible says, "And a voice from heaven said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with Him I am well pleased.”
Just as Jesus entered these waters purposefully, those of you who were baptised yesterday followed in His footsteps. You didn't just step into water; you stepped into a renewed commitment to God’s purpose for your life. When Jesus stood in the Jordan, it was the exact place God wanted Him. The heavens opened, the Spirit descended, and God’s voice affirmed His identity and mission.
This powerful imagery reminds us that being in the right place, as ordained by God, brings divine affirmation and guidance.
What this means for you
Notice something important. God said, this is my Son, whom I love; with Him I am well pleased, before Jesus had preached one sermon or done one miracle. Jesus heard His Father's love first, and then He went out to do His work.
Many men live the other way round. We try to earn love and respect by what we achieve. We work hard to prove ourselves to our fathers, our bosses and even to God. But in Christ, you are already a loved son. Your purpose flows from that, not the other way round.
So whether you were baptised last week or many years ago, take time today to hear what your Father says about you. You are His. He loves you. He has a purpose for your life. Then go and live it out at home, at work and in your community, with your head held high.
Think about it
Are you living to earn God's love, or living from it?
If you have not been baptised yet, what is stopping you?
Let us pray:
Heavenly Father, thank You for the sacred act of baptism and the powerful example of Your Son, Jesus. As we reflect on our commitment and the steps taken in baptism, guide us into the paths You have prepared for us. May our lives always be pleasing to You, as we walk in faith and obedience. In Jesus' name, Amen.
