Day 3: Guarding Your Spirit

Wednesday, 3 July 2024

Good morning, Men of Honour! Today, let’s reflect on the tremendous value of our spiritual well-being. We often secure our physical possessions with alarms and locks, recognising their worth and the presence of thieves. Yet, how often do we protect our most precious asset, our spirit?

You are incredibly valuable to God. Created in His image, you possess a spirit that emanates from God Himself. This divine connection makes you a target for spiritual theft. The enemy aims to steal and destroy what is most valuable, your spiritual life.

How do we guard our spirits?

  1. First, strengthen your relationship with Jesus. Communicate with Him daily and let Him shape your identity.

  2. Second, immerse yourself in the Word of God. Read, study, and meditate on the scriptures to fortify your mind.

  3. Lastly, Stay vigilant. While the thief prowls continuously, remember that Jesus came to restore what has been lost. In Him, find the abundance of life.

What this means for you

Proverbs 4:23 says, above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it. What goes into your eyes and ears will end up in your heart. Then it will come out in your words and your actions.

So be honest with yourself, brother. What are you watching? What are you listening to? Who are you spending time with? These things are the gates to your spirit. A strong man keeps watch at the gate.

This is not about rules. It is about protecting something precious. You would never leave your front door wide open at night. Do not leave your spirit open either. Put good things in: the Word of God, worship, prayer, and friendships with men who love God. And when something bad gets in, deal with it quickly. Confess it, turn from it and ask the Holy Spirit to clean your heart.

Think about it

  • Which gate in your life needs a stronger guard?

  • What good thing can you add to your day to feed your spirit?

Let us pray:

Heavenly Father, we come before You today seeking Your protection and wisdom. Please help us to guard our spirits with the same vigilance that we use to protect our physical treasures. May we deepen our relationship with you, strengthen ourselves with Your Word, and continuously worship You. Guide us to live in the fullness of the life You have restored through Christ. Amen.
