Fear
Fear of the future, of illness, of failure, of losing someone you love, or of what other people think. Fear can creep into every part of life. It can keep you awake at night and stop you from stepping into all that God has for you.
One of the most repeated commands in the Bible is some version of “Do not be afraid.” God says it again and again because He knows how easily we are gripped by fear. He doesn’t simply tell us to stop feeling afraid. He gives us a reason: He is with us.
When fear rises, here are some things you can do:
Name your fear. Tell God exactly what you are afraid of. Bringing it into the light takes away some of its power.
Remember who God is. He is bigger than anything you face. Read Psalm 23, Psalm 46 or Psalm 91 aloud.
Speak truth over the fear. “The Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline” (2 Timothy 1:7).
Take the next small step. Courage is not the absence of fear. It is obeying God while you are still afraid.
Ask others to pray with you. Fear shrinks when we face it together with God’s people.
Jesus told His disciples, “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you… Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid” (John 14:27). His peace is still available to you today.
