He Was Looking for You First

My soul clings to you; your right hand upholds me.
— Psalm 63:8 (ESV)

Have you ever sat quietly and wondered why, in the middle of an ordinary day, you suddenly thought of God? You were not in a church building. No one was preaching. No music was playing. Yet something inside you stirred, a quiet pull, a small ache, a whisper you could not explain.

That moment was not random. That was God.

Long before you ever thought of seeking Him, He was already seeking you. The Bible calls it prevenient grace. Before a sinful person can even think a right thought about God, God is already at work. The urge to pray, the hunger to know Him, the restlessness for something more, all of it begins with Him. We pursue God because, and only because, He first put the pursuit inside us.

I think of my own story. I was born in Iran, raised in a Muslim home, and for many years, I had no idea who Jesus really was. Yet looking back, I can see now that He was tracking me, calling me, leading me through countries and seasons until I finally heard His voice. I was running and seeking, but He was the One drawing me the whole time.

That is the beautiful paradox of Psalm 63:8. The psalmist says, My soul clings, my soul follows hard, my soul presses in. And in the very same breath, he says, but your right hand is holding me. We follow because He is holding. We seek because He is the One who put the seeking in our hearts.

If today you feel even the smallest pull towards God, do not ignore it. That is not your idea. That is His invitation. He has not stopped pursuing you. He never stops pursuing the people He loves.

And here is the wonderful news. The God who started this pursuit is not playing hard to get. He is not hiding behind a cloud waiting to see if you will be clever enough to find Him. He is closer than your own breath. He is here, now, drawing you to Himself by His Spirit.

The question is never, “Will God respond if I seek Him?” The question is, “Will I respond when He has already moved heaven to find me?”

So today, lift your eyes. Stop apologising for being hungry. That hunger is holy. It is the fingerprint of God on your soul. Some people think they are too far gone, too broken, too foreign, too late. But if there is a longing in you, however small, that longing was placed there by the King of heaven Himself, and He intends to satisfy it.

Begin where you are. Not where you wish you were. Speak to Him in plain words. Tell Him you are hungry. Tell Him you want to know Him, not just know about Him. Then watch what He does, because the One who began this work in you is the One who will carry it on to completion.

Today, take heart. The pursuit of God is not a lonely hike where you hope He notices you. It is the joyful coming home of a child whose Father has been waiting at the window all along.

Reflection

1. When was the last time you felt God drawing you, and how did you respond to that pull?

2. What would change in your day if you truly believed God has been seeking you long before you ever sought Him?

Prayer

Father, I see it now. You were chasing me long before I ever turned my face towards You. Thank You for the holy hunger in my heart, because I understand it came from You. Today I lift my eyes and I say yes, I want more of You. Not just blessings, not just answers, but You. By Your Spirit, draw me deeper into the wonder of who You are. In Jesus' name, amen.

Declaration

I am not chasing a distant God. The God of heaven is pursuing me, and today I run into His arms.
