Closed Doors? Trust God’s Redirection

Have you ever had a door slam shut right in front of you? Not a little click. A proper slam. Something you prayed for, believed for, worked hard for. And then it still did not happen. Maybe it was a job, a relationship, a move, or a dream you had carried for years. You begged God. You stood on His promises. And still, the door closed.

I have been there. And I know how much it hurts. It can feel like God has forgotten you or worse, like He does not care. But let me tell you something I have learned the hard way. A closed door is not the end of your story. It might just be the beginning of something better.

Revelation 3:7 says this about Jesus. "What He opens no one can shut, and what He shuts no one can open." That means if God closed that door, no amount of your effort or worry can force it open. And if He opens a door for you, nothing in heaven or on earth can stop it.

Then Proverbs 3:5 and 6 says, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight." So even when it does not make sense, even when you cannot see the way forward, God is still directing your steps. Every single one of them.

Standing firm in faith does not mean you never feel disappointed. It means you do not bow to that disappointment. You bow to Jesus instead. You trust that He sees what you cannot see. You remember that His timing is perfect, even when it feels painfully slow.

Here is the deep truth. Closed doors are rarely a rejection. More often, they are protection or redirection. God may be keeping you from something less because He has something greater ahead. He might be saving you from a relationship that would break you. Or a job that would pull you away from Him. Or a move that would isolate you from the community. You cannot see the danger. But He can.

So do not fight the shut door. Do not keep rattling the handle. That will only exhaust you. Instead, take a breath. Turn around. And look for the door He is opening. It might be behind you. It might be smaller than you expected. But it is there.

Think about Paul in the book of Acts. He tried to go into certain regions to preach the gospel. But the Holy Spirit stopped him. Closed doors. Frustrating, right? Paul could have argued. He could have pushed through. But he trusted. And those closed doors led him to Macedonia. A place he had not planned to go. And there, lives were changed. Whole cities heard the good news. All because Paul accepted a closed door as God's direction.

Today, I want to encourage you. Stop fighting the closed doors in your life. Instead, trust God's direction. If He shut it, there is a reason. A good reason. A loving reason. Your job is not to understand everything. Your job is to keep walking with Him. He will open the right door at the right time.

Let us pray. Father, help me trust You when doors close. Give me peace to follow Your direction and faith to believe You are leading me to something better. In Jesus' name, Amen.

With you on the journey.
