Fear Does Not Come from God: Choose Power, Love and a Sound Mind

Have you ever felt fear creeping in? That quiet voice telling you to hold back, stay quiet or play it safe. It might say, "Do not speak up. Someone might judge you." Or "Do not take that step. You might fail." Or "Do not trust God with that. It is too risky." Fear can feel so real. It can feel like it is trying to take control of your decisions. And sometimes, it succeeds.

I have been there. I have let fear talk me out of things I should have done. I have stayed silent when I should have spoken. I have played it safe when God was calling me to be brave. But over the years, I have learned something important. Fear does not come from God. And you do not have to obey it.

2 Timothy 1 verse 7 says this. "For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline."

Read that again. God has not given you a spirit of fear. That means fear is not your inheritance. It is not part of your identity. It is not a gift from your Father. Fear comes from somewhere else. From the enemy. From your own anxious thoughts. From past hurts. But not from God.

Instead, God has given you three things. Power. Love. And a sound mind. Power to act boldly. Love to cast out fear. A sound mind to think clearly and make wise decisions. You already have these gifts. They are inside you. You just need to use them.

Here is the truth. Fear tries to shrink you. It wants you to become small, quiet and invisible. It wants you to stay in the boat when Jesus is calling you to walk on water. It wants you to hold back your gift, your voice and your calling. But God has already given you everything you need to overcome fear.

You do not have to live controlled by fear. You can choose to trust God instead. Fear may speak loudly. It may shout and scream and make your heart race. But it does not have the final say. You have the final say. And you can say, "I choose to trust God."

Think about all the times in Scripture when God said, "Do not be afraid." He did not say that because fear was reasonable. He said it because fear was a liar. And He wanted His people to know that He was bigger than whatever they were facing.

Think about David standing before Goliath. Everyone else was afraid. The whole Israelite army was trembling. Goliath was nine feet tall. He had armour and a spear. He was a trained warrior. But David was just a shepherd boy with a sling and five smooth stones.

Fear told David to run. Fear told him he was too small. But David did not listen to fear. He listened to God. He said, "You come against me with sword and spear, but I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty." And that changed everything. One stone. One giant. One victory. Because one young man chose trust over fear.

Today, do not let fear make your decisions. Do not let it hold you back, silence you or shrink you. You have power. You have love. You have a sound mind. Choose to trust God and step forward. The giant in front of you is not bigger than the God inside you.

Let us pray. Father, I reject fear today. It does not come from You, so I do not have to listen to it. Fill me with Your power, Your love and a sound mind. Help me to walk in courage and trust You fully. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Be brave, church. The same God who helped David is helping you.
