Stepping Into the Tension
1 Kings 1:15-16 (NLT) - "So Bathsheba went into the king’s bedroom... Bathsheba bowed down before the king."
Bathsheba was at a crisis point. Adonijah was celebrating, the nation was dividing, and time was running out. She could have retreated to her chambers and wept over the injustice of it all. Instead, she stepped into the tension. Approaching the king uninvited was a dangerous political move, but Bathsheba confronted the issue with absolute clarity and courage.
Our world is full of chaos, and the family will fall if a parent refuses to step in. Tension is the price of protection. Dietrich Bonhoeffer famously wrote in The Cost of Discipleship, "Silence in the face of evil is itself evil: God will not hold us guiltless. Not to speak is to speak. Not to act is to act." As spiritual architects, we cannot afford passive parenting. We must be willing to have hard, awkward conversations. We must step into the tension of our children's choices, friendships, and struggles. Courage is not the absence of fear; it is the willingness to act because something else, the destiny of your child, is more important.
Prayer:
Lord, please give me the courage and strength to face the problems and tough times that come my way. Sorry for the times I have backed away or been passive. Fill me with a clear purpose and confidence to protect and take care of my family with kindness and strong beliefs. Lead me to act wisely and with love in all situations. In Jesus' name, Amen.
