Kosovo Sports Mission

We believe it is our duty as Christians to use whatever means necessary to share the good news of Jesus Christ, that He saves, heals and delivers and has made a way to the Father.

As a church we’re committed to supporting other Christians that live in countries where it is difficult to be a Christian. One of those places is Kosovo.

Why Kosovo?

There is a less than 1% of Evangelical Christians. In 1998 there were ethnic conflicts between Albanians and Serbians requiring the intervention of NATO. This has caused a lot of civil unrest and conflict along ethnic lines in the country. In 2008 Kosovo declared independence from Serbia but this has not been recognized by some countries and the EU. It is currently being run by the UN, because of this much of the infrastructure of the country is broken, human rights and access to education, health care and work is lacking. This country has a lot of needs and it is the young people that are suffering the most.

What we will do there?

We have come together as a group to use our skills as sports men and women to share the love of Christ with others. We believe our gifts and talents come from our Father God and we want to use these gifts to glorify him.

Having then gifts different according to the grace that is given to us, let us use them. Romans 12:6 (NKJV)

We will run 2 sports camps over 3 days at 2 different locations. We hope to come in contact with about 50 kids each day.

We will teach the kids some basic sports skills and organize games for them to compete. On our list of expertise are football, basketball, hockey, handball, netball, rugby and American football.

We will also use this opportunity to share our testimony of the grace of God in our lives  and how Jesus has saved us.

Costs for 10 days
Flights ~ £300 each
Mini bus hire and transportation ~ 1000 (£850)
Food ~ €1000 (£850)
Accommodation ~ €350 (£298)
Sports camp costs
Sports arena hire ~ €1000 (£850)
Fruit and water for the kids ~ €70 (£60) per day
Camp running costs and equipment ~ €300 (£255)

*These costs are all approximate as we are doing our best to keep all costs low.

AOG Young Lions

For nearly 20 years, Young Lions has been instrumental in developing the next generations of AoG leaders.

Featuring a unique mixture of ministry, teaching, coaching groups & practical challenges, it is a weekend that produces incredible results in the lives of the delegates & coaches. Our Nation needs young leaders who know God, know themselves, and are equipped to further His Kingdom wherever they are. Our Nation needs Young Lions.

Why not sow into the life of our next generation?

WHAT’S YOUNG LIONS ALL ABOUT?

We believe that the church needs to have a ‘wave after wave’ approach to developing leaders; understanding that the second we stop investing in those coming after us, we’re a generation from dying out! Young Lions plays a part in that, exposing young people to what leadership is, that there is a call on all of us to lead where we are, and to take responsibility to shape ourselves into the image of Christ.

WHO IS YOUNG LIONS FOR?

Young Lions is for young people between the age of 16-21 who have found Christ and are beginning their journey of leadership. We don’t just want polished ‘got it together’ kids, if they love Jesus and there’s just a chance they could do incredible things for Him, send them! To coach, you must be a youth pastor/leader who has either graduated Young Lions or has good experience working with young people.

WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT AT THE WEEKEND?

The Young Lions weekend is not your typical youth weekend away. It’s a unique training, development and assessment boot-camp! Positive peer pressure and the power of an unfamiliar environment will put delegates through their paces and in to situations that will force them to draw on the skills and abilities that they have.

The weekend is loaded with teaching sessions, encounter sessions, smaller coaching group sessions and a physical session. Every element has been designed and honed over the years to provide the most impact a weekend can offer!

On arrival, delegates will be split into small groups and assigned a coach for the weekend. Coaches are either graduates of Young Lions, or Youth Pastors & leaders attending with their young people. The role of the coach is to accompany the delegates through the weekend, and also to complete an assessment form at the end to be sent back to the delegate’s Church. This is an awesome discipleship tool for their leaders. Young Lions is 3 weekends over 3 years; each year containing different elements of the leadership journey.

Youth Summer Events

Soul Survivor festivals ran from 1993 to 2019, gathering thousands of young people to worship Jesus each summer.

Over 32,500 attended the last Soul Survivor summer with five events in Peterborough, Stafford and Scotland including Naturally Supernatural, an event for all the family. An amazing 2,100 made commitments to follow Jesus and thousands more had life-changing encounters.

The story of Soul Survivor is a story of what God can do when you take a risk and follow him. We’ve never been the most talented bunch and we’ve never had lots of money or a huge staff team, but we have the most faithful God who loves to meet with his people and draw them to him.

21 Days

From Wednesday 1st of January 2020 we are starting our 21 days of prayer and fasting. Our goal for fasting is to draw nearer to God. Biblical fasting always has to do with eliminating distractions for a spiritual purpose; it hits the reset button of our soul and renews us from the inside out. It also enables us to celebrate the goodness and mercy of God and prepares our hearts for all the good things God desires to bring into our lives.

If you sense God has more for your life, 21 Days of Prayer is a great place to start believing Him for all that He has for you. As you practice seeking Him first, He will move on your behalf like never before. You will start to see the power of prayer impact your relationships, work, family, and every area of your life.

Types of Fasts

Your personal fast should present a level of challenge, but it is very important to know your body, your options, and most importantly, to seek God in prayer and follow what the Holy Spirit leads you to do.

COMPLETE FAST

In this type of fast, you drink only liquids, typically water with light juices as an option.

SELECTIVE FAST

This type of fast involves removing certain elements from your diet. One example of a selective fast is the Daniel Fast, during which you remove meat, sweets, and bread from your diet and consume water and juice for fluids and fruits and vegetables for food.

PARTIAL FAST

This fast is sometimes called the “Jewish Fast” and involves abstaining from eating any type of food in the morning and afternoon. This can either correlate to specific times of the day, such as 6:00 am to 3:00 pm, or from sunup to sundown.

SOUL FAST

This fast is a great option if you do not have much experience fasting food, have health issues that prevent you from fasting food, or if you wish to refocus certain areas of your life that are out of balance. For example, you might choose to stop using social media or watching television for the duration of the fast and then carefully bring that element back into your life in healthy doses at the conclusion of the fast.

A Welcome Letter from Pastor Mike

Read a letter written by Pastor Mike and addressed to YOU.

Dear Friend,

Permit me to share with you the biggest kindness ever shown to me. It all began before I was born, and yet I did not discover it until some years later. These words from the Bible present the heart of the whole matter: Romans 5:8

"God showed His great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners."

The amazing discovery is that the above passage applied to me. I was one of those sinners for whom Christ died. I realized that being religious and attending church was not enough. Since, according to the Bible, "all have sinned and come short of the Glory of God," - Romans 3:23, I knew this did include me.

An even greater discovery was that Jesus loved me enough to die for my sins! Most difficult of all was to face myself in the light of His kindness and death upon the cross. It was then the truth of I John 1:9 became powerfully real:

"If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness."

I was surprised to find that real forgiveness of sins did not come by struggling or striving, but only by confessing and yielding to Jesus Christ in simple faith. Now, best of all, He does not leave us with only a past experience of forgiveness; but He, Himself, is a present Saviour and Companion each moment of life's journey.

You have kindly read these words. I trust you have already accepted or will now accept the wonderful love and kindness of Jesus Christ to you.

If you desire a fuller understanding of His kindness and grace, please read prayerfully the Gospel of John, which is found in the Bible and join us for worship and instruction in God's Word.

Sincerely yours,

Mike O'Connor, Pastor
Wythenshawe Community Church

Our Statement of Faith

Wythenshawe Community Church's Statement of Faith.

In short, we believe that Jesus has saved us from our sins (if we have repented from them) by his death for our sins in our place on the cross, and that the Bible is the true and exact word of God.

However, because there is a lot more to it than that, for the sake of accuracy, and to avoid any misunderstanding, the full belief statement of the Assemblies of God council of Churches - which is the belief statement of this church, is reproduced here, together with Bible references:

ASSEMBLIES OF GOD OF GREAT BRITAIN AND IRELAND
DOCTRINAL STATEMENT OF FUNDAMENTAL TRUTHS

  1. We believe that the Bible (i.e. the Old and New testaments excluding the Apocrypha), is the inspired Word of God. The infallible, all sufficient rule for faith and practice, 2 Tim 3 v 15-162 Peter 1 v 21.
  2. We believe in the unity of the One True and Living God Who is the Eternal, self-existent 'I AM', Who has also revealed Himself as One Being in three persons - Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, Deut 6 v 4Mark 12 v 29Matt 28 v 19.
  3. We believe in the virgin birth, sinless life, miraculous ministry, substitutionary atoning death, bodily resurrection, triumphant ascension and abiding intercession of the Lord Jesus Christ and in His premillennial Second Advent as the blessed hope set before all believers. Is 7 v 14Matt 1 v 23Heb 7 v 261 Peter 2 v 22Acts 2 v 210 v 382 Cor 5 v 21Heb 9 v 12Luke 24 v 39;1 Cor 15 v 4Acts 1 v 9Eph 4 v 8-10Rom 8 v 34Heb 7 v 251 Cor. 15 v 22-24,51-571 Thess 4 v 13-18Rev 20 v 1-6.
  4. We believe in the fall of man, who was created pure and upright, but fell by voluntary transgressionGen 1 v 26-313 v 1-7Rom 5 v 12-21.
  5. We believe in salvation through faith in Christ, who died for our sins according to the Scriptures, was buried and was raised from among the dead on the third day according to the Scriptures, and through His Blood we have redemption, Titus 2 v 113 v 5-7Romans 10 v 8-151 Cor 15 v 3-4. This experience is also known as the New Birth, and is an instantaneous and complete operation of the Holy Spirit upon initial faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. John 3 v 3-6James 1 v 181 Peter 1 v 231 John 5 v 1.
  6. We believe that baptism by immersion in water is enjoined upon all who have really repented and have truly believed with all their hearts in Christ as Saviour and Lord, Matt 28 v 19Acts 10 v 47-48Acts 2 v 38-39.
  7. We believe in the baptism in the Holy Spirit, the initial evidence of which is the speaking in other tongues as the Spirit gives utterance. Acts 2 v 410 v 44-4611 v 14-16;
  8. We believe that the Gifts of the Holy Spirit and the Offices have been set by God in the Church, as recorded in the New Testament, 1 Cor 12 v 4-1128Eph 4 v 7-16.
  9. We believe in holiness of life and conduct in obedience to the command of God 'Be ye holy for I am holy'. 1 Peter 1 v 14-16Heb 12 v 141 Thess 5 v 231 John 2 v 6;
  10. We believe that deliverance from sickness, by Divine Healing is provided for in the AtonementIs 53 v 4-5Matt 8 v 16-17James 5 v 13-16.
  11. We believe that breaking of bread is enjoined upon all believers until the Lord comes, Luke 22 v 14-201 Cor 11 v 20-34
  12. We believe in the bodily resurrection of all men, the everlasting conscious bliss of all who truly believe in our Lord Jesus Christ and that everlasting conscious punishment is the portion of all whose names are not written in the Book of Life, John 5 v 28-291 Cor 15 v 22-24Dan 12 v 2-3Matt 25 v 462 Thess 1 v 9Rev 20 v 10-15.

3 Reasons Why You Need Jesus

Jesus loves you! He desires to have a relationship with you, and to give you a life full of joy and purpose. Why do you need Him in your life?

Jesus loves you! He desires to have a relationship with you, and to give you a life full of joy and purpose. Why do you need Him in your life?

1. Because you have a past.

You can't go back, but He can. The bible says, "Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever." (Hebrews 13:8). He can walk into those places of sin and failure, wipe the slate clean and give you a new beginning.

2. Because you need a friend.

Jesus knows the worst about you, yet He believes the best. Why? Because He sees you not as you are, but as you will be when He gets through with you. What a friend!

3. Because He holds the future.

Who else are you going to trust? In his hands you are safe and secure today, tomorrow and for eternity. His word says, "For I know the plans I have for you... plans for good and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. In those days you pray I will listen." (Jeremiah 29:11-13 TLB)

If you'd like to begin a personal relationship with Jesus today, please pray this prayer:

“Lord Jesus, I invite you into my life. I believe you died for me and that your blood pays for my sins and provides me with the gift of eternal life. By faith I receive that gift and I acknowledge you as my Lord and Saviour. Amen.”

If you have made this commitment and would like to make contact with a local Christian or if you do not feel ready to make this decision and would like further help from a local Christian, please contact us.

Testimony - Sue Bennett

The testimony of Sue Bennett.

After becoming a Christian, I found out that God is interested in every part of our lives and that it says in the Bible that we should cast the whole of our cares (anxieties, worries and concerns), once and for all on Him, for he cares for us affectionately and cares about us watchfully. (1 Peter 5 verse 7.) (The Amplified Bible)

When my Grandmother died I was devastated as it was the first time a close family member had died. The people at my gran's church and also those at mine prayed for the family and me. It was then that I experienced a wonderful peace and joy which remained after the funeral and through out the mourning period.

The Bible says "Blessed be the God of all comfort who comforts us in all our tribulation"(1 Corinthians 1 verses 3 and 4)

During labour at the birth of our daughter I found that for some reason I could not push her out of my body. My husband who was with me was praying over me in tongues but eventually the baby had to be delivered with forceps.

Back in my room I was feeling very depressed and a complete failure. I reached for my Bible.

Of all the pages it fell open at Isaiah 66 and the verse that met my eyes said, 'Shall I bring to the moment of birth and not cause to bring forth?' (verse 9)

This I took as a token from the Lord that He was with me and had used the doctors and nurses to deliver my baby.

At work some years ago we were expecting a visit from a district inspector. We were all feeling rather nervous. A nursery is supposed to provide a stimulating atmosphere in order to create a sense of awe and wonder in the children. To our delight the butterflies which we had kept from eggs emerged from their chrysalises as the inspector arrived.

He is the God of all wonders! Psalms 77:14.

Testimony - "I am a Child of God"

The testimony of 11-year-old Smyrna Joseph and how God spoke to her.

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old is gone, the new has come.” 2 Corinthians 5:17.

My name is Smyrna Joseph. I was born into a Christian family and from my childhood my parents taught me about Jesus.  I never used to bother to listen or pay attention when it was prayer time or time for church. I used to be in my own world all the time thinking only about myself…!

On 9th August I went with my mother to church. It was a normal fasting prayer meeting which we always have on Tuesdays. So we went there and I invited one of my friends as I knew I would get bored.

My friend and I were sitting at the table colouring and one of church member got a text saying that the rioters where in Manchester and had destroyed a few shops. So my friend and I got very scared, we starting saying what if they came to Wythenshawe or came to us, because Manchester city centre is very close.

Before going home Pastor Mike gave very encouraging word from Psalm 91: 14-16. “Because he loves me, “says the Lord, “I will rescue him;  I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name. He will call upon me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honour him. With long life will I satisfy him and show him my salvation.”

So the prayer meeting finished and we went home. On the way home in the car we were passing the Forum we all saw gangs and gangs of teenagers, and police were there getting ready, putting on all their protection gear, and getting their guns.  My friend and I got so scared looking at everything we got terrified and started to cry.

On the way home on the motorway we were still in shock and very upset.  Then Aunty Angela said, “Up there in the clouds there is an invisible fight going on between the angels and demons, how can we support God when he sees his daughters crying?  He promised that He would protect you and God must be thinking my daughter's don’t believe in me!”

These words made us more calm. We reached home and I was still scared but not as much as before.  My friend and I were sitting in the bed watching the news and my friend said what if Jesus comes now because it is the end days?  So, I got scared and starting thinking what if Jesus does come and it is Judgment Day?  What will happen to me?   I don’t want to go to hell! Will I go to HEAVEN or HELL?  We both started to read the Bible.

Immediately I went and said to mum, “Mummy I want to accept Jesus into my Life. But at the same time I don’t know because I have fear in my heart.  My mum read the Bible and prayed for both us.  My mum told us to remember as God promise “Do not be afraid, for I am with you”. Isaiah 43:5.  But because of my fear my mum spoke with pastor mike to pray for me. After Pastor Mike prayed for me he arranged some Bible teaching for me with Aunty Angela. This comforted my heart.

That day when I prayed the sinner’s prayer all the fear went away and new joy came into my heart.  That was the moment I accepted Jesus as my personal saviour.

I came home and told my parents. They were very happy.  As days passed by I wanted to get baptised and Pastor Mike helped me to understand what it meant to be baptised.  I believed that Jesus died for me on the cross and shed His blood for me; He washed away all my sins and went into heaven to prepare place for me.

On 11th September 2011 I took water baptism.  The Bible says, “Having been buried with Him in baptism, you were also raised with Him through faith in the working of God, who raised Him from the dead.” Colossians 2:12.

I am very thankful to Pastor Mike and Aunty Angela for teaching me.  I will always remember both of you as my spiritual teachers.  I thank God that He has saved me. I am proud to say, “I AM A CHILD OF GOD.”  Hallelujah….!

Smyrna Joseph

aged 11 years and 11 months.
