Day 8: Christian Dating Principles
From Sunday sermon dated 19th November 2023 on series titled: Exploring Relationships in God
Day 1: The Purpose of Dating
MAIN SCRIPTURE: Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 (NLT) 9 Two people are better off than one, for they can help each other succeed. 10 If one person falls, the other can reach out and help. But someone who falls alone is in real trouble.
DEVOTIONAL:
In a world that often romanticises relationships, it's important to understand the true purpose of dating. Dating is not just a social activity but a journey to find a partner with whom one can build a strong, God-centred relationship. The Bible reminds us that companionship is valuable, and having someone by your side can make life's journey more meaningful.
The purpose of dating is to discern compatibility, grow in understanding, and foster mutual respect and love. It's a time to observe character, align purposes, and establish a foundation that can lead to a godly marriage. Just as Ecclesiastes highlights the strength in companionship, dating should be seen as a pathway to find a partner who can help you grow closer to God.
In the pursuit of dating, it's important to set clear goals and intentions. Are you seeking to glorify God in your relationship? Are you ready to support and uplift your partner in times of need? By keeping Christ at the centre, we can navigate the complexities of dating with wisdom and grace.
PRAYER:
Heavenly Father, thank You for the gift of relationships. Guide those in their journey of dating to seek companionship that glorifies You. Help them to approach relationships with wisdom, purity, and a heart aligned with Your purpose. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
