Day 12: Simeon Pastor Ras

Day 12: Simeon

Luke 2:25-32 (NIV) 25 “Now there was a man in Jerusalem called Simeon, who was righteous and devout. He was waiting for the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was on him. 26 It had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not die before he had seen the Lord’s Messiah. 27 Moved by the Spirit, he went into the temple courts. When the parents brought in the child Jesus to do for him what the custom of the Law required, 28 Simeon took him in his arms and praised God, saying:

29 “Sovereign Lord, as you have promised, you may now dismiss your servant in peace. 30 For my eyes have seen your salvation, 31 which you have prepared in the sight of all nations: 32 a light for revelation to the Gentiles, and the glory of your people Israel.”

Devotional:

In Jerusalem, there lived a man named Simeon. He was a good and devoted man, waiting for a special promise from God. This promise was to see the Messiah before he died. His story is found in the Gospel of Luke and teaches us about hope, faith, and God keeping His word.

Simeon's days were filled with waiting for something very important - the arrival of Jesus, the Messiah. He believed in God's promise and waited with a hopeful heart. His life is a great example for us to learn about waiting with faith.

The day Simeon met baby Jesus was very special. When Jesus' parents brought Him to the temple, Simeon knew God's promise had come true. Holding Jesus, he was full of thanks and knew he had seen God's salvation. This moment shows us that God always keeps His promises.

What We Can Learn from Simeon

  1. Waiting with Hope: Simeon's story teaches us to wait for God's promises with hope, just like he did.

  2. God's Perfect Timing: Simeon's wait reminds us that things happen in God's time, not always when we want them to.

  3. A Good Life: Simeon lived a good life, close to God. We can try to live like him, being good and close to God.

How to Be Like Simeon

  1. Be Patient: Like Simeon, let's try to be patient and trust God's timing.

  2. Believe in Promises: Think about God's promises to you. Keep them in your heart and believe that He will make them happen.

  3. Live Well: Try to live a good life, being kind and doing what's right, just like Simeon.

Simeon's story inspires us to wait with hope and believe in God's promises. It reminds us that God is always true to His word. May we, like Simeon, wait with excited hearts to see God's work in our lives.

Father in heaven, like Simeon, grant us the grace to wait with patience and faith for the fulfilment of Your promises. Help us live a life of righteousness, keeping our hearts fixed on You. In the mighty name of Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen.
