Breaking the Chain of Laziness: Faith in Action

Faith isn't a spectator sport; it's a call to action! Pastor Ras

DEVOTIONAL:

MAIN SCRIPTURE: James 2:15-17 (NIV) 15 Suppose a brother or a sister is without clothes and daily food. 16 If one of you says to them, “Go in peace; keep warm and well fed,” but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it? 17 In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.

I am sure we have all been there, seeing someone in need and thinking, "Someone else will help them," or "I'm too busy right now." It's tempting to turn a blind eye and keep moving. But the book of James challenges us to think differently. It tells us that having faith is not just about believing in God, but also about acting in ways that mirror that faith. In other words, faith isn't a spectator sport; it's a call to action!

You see, laziness or lack of concern is like a chain that holds us back from fully embracing God's plan for us and for those around us. When we are unconcerned, we are essentially saying that our comfort is more important than the needs of others. But as followers of Christ, we are called to be His hands and feet on earth, reaching out to those who are in need.

Remember, small acts of kindness can make a world of difference. Maybe it's helping a neighbour with their groceries, or perhaps it's a simple act of listening to someone who is going through a tough time. These acts, though they may seem small, are powerful expressions of a faith that is alive and active.

PRAYER:

Heavenly Father, forgive me for the times I have been lazy or even unconcerned towards the needs of others. Revive my faith and stir me to action. In Jesus' name, Amen.

ACTION STEP:

Today, actively look for an opportunity to help someone in a practical way, no matter how small the gesture may seem.
