Ephesians 6:10-11 (NLT) 10 A final word: Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on all of God’s armour so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil.
DEVOTIONAL:
Life as a follower of Christ is indeed a fulfilling journey, but it's not one without its hills and valleys. We all face challenges, temptations, and moments of weakness. It's like being a soldier on a battlefield, but guess what? You are not alone, and you are certainly not unarmed.
God, in His infinite wisdom, has provided each of us with spiritual armour, detailed in Ephesians 6. This armour isn't just a fancy concept; it's a set of spiritual tools designed to help you stand your ground, even when the going gets tough. It's like God's personal provision for your spiritual "first aid kit."
Each piece of armour serves a unique purpose in defending against temptation and evil.
1. Belt of Truth: The belt represents truth and is vital for securing our identity. It helps us discern between truth and lies.
Application: Study the entire Bible, use Scripture in prayers, and memorise it for immediate access during spiritual battles.
2. Breastplate of Righteousness: This piece safeguards the heart and represents both the righteousness received from Christ and the righteousness carried out through us.
Application: Follow God's instructions and seek guidance from church leaders or trusted friends when struggling with obedience.
3. Shoes of Peace: These shoes help us stand firm and are rooted in the peace that comes from oneness with God through the Gospel.
Application: Reflect daily on the Gospel and root your identity in Christ's work.
4. Shield of Faith: This shield can be compared to the kind of shield used by Roman soldiers, which puts out the burning arrows of doubt, fear, and temptation. To keep it working well, it needs to be "soaked" in the teachings of the Bible.
Application: Ask God to strengthen your faith and surround yourself with faith building Scriptures.
5. Helmet of Salvation: This covers the mind, where most spiritual battles are fought. It represents both the initial act of salvation and the ongoing process of sanctification.
Application: Align your thoughts with Scripture and remember God's character and faithfulness.
6. Sword of the Spirit: This is both a defensive and offensive weapon. The sword of the Spirit is the word of God, as demonstrated by Jesus during His temptation in the wilderness.
Application: Learn, memorise, and use Scripture to counter temptations and challenges, following the example set by Jesus.
Remember, the best way to use the full Armour of God is to pray and read the Bible daily.
ACTION STEP:
Read Ephesians 6:10-18. Spend time today praying over each piece of the armour of God and consciously put it on.
PRAYER:
Heavenly Father, I thank you for arming me with Your divine armour. Every day, help me consciously put on each piece, so I'm prepared for whatever comes my way. Guide me in using these tools effectively to stand firm against any schemes the enemy might throw at me. I desire to be strong in You and Your mighty power. In Jesus' name, Amen.
